Tibarn
This may be due to poor farming practices and drought. How have rain levels been in RJ and UP the last few years? The US had something similar called the Dust Bowl which took place over a decade.

dial_100
RIP. Poor disaster management. In poor states like UP it is completely lacking.

Always best to have the leader of the state on site/control room when such calamities happen. I remember how after that Burrabazar flyover collapse in Kolkata a couple of years ago, Didi camped at that site for 2 whole days and nights to oversee the rescue-rehab operations. Even disaster management workers will get charged up if the CM is there with them during times of crisis.

Hindu Dharma. You take it out, India is the worst hell hole imaginable. Hindu dharma is the only redeeming quality of Indians. Sadly the only states that have worked towards population control (in South and West India, also others like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh) will pay for their good work by suffering politically (delimitation freeze will be lifted in 1st census after 2026 thus giving UP/Bihar/WB over 33% strength in Lok Sabha), economically (resource allocation) and culturally( Hindi imposition). Some of the Hindi heartland states are unwilling to reduce their TFR, why should well performing states suffer because of ineptness of some other region? Well performing as in relatively...and I was talking specifically about TFR control. All of India is a 3rd world cesspit, just because a Maharashtra is better than Bihar is nothing to feel proud about for Marathis.
