Saha to be monitored for finger injury, now out of Afghanistan test

Saha at his best can score a ugly but resilient 20....DK a beautiful 30 and Parthiv an attractive 40.

Now for those additional 20 odd runs and some aesthetically pleasing viewing, the downside is these 2 will single-handedly revive careers and by that I mean careers of opposition batsmen.

Cook will be praying right now to have one of these 2 as the keeper for the England series lol

Agree apart from the first line. He can also dig his team out of trouble from 126/5 with a century or score unbeaten 50s in both innings (adjudged MoM performance) of a low-scoring match against New Zealand on a green track (Eden Gardens). Who cares if those runs were pretty (I personally think they were not particularly ugly) -- they got the job done, look in the scorebook if you have doubts!

5 batsmen 1 average batting keeper, 1 fake all rounder 4 bowlers. Any top order collapse means India getting bundled out for 150. Some resistance is needed down the order. if Saha flunks in first 2 tests and India loses it, he might get "injured" again. Saha has to step up. But his Bangladesh type batting may never improve. Even KKD is not a long term option. india needs someone fresh athletic wicket keeper.

DK would be the next in line. He has kept wickets. He can open the innings instead of Dhawan who struggles against swing.

He had a terrific 2007 tour but he didn't keep in that series. Keeping in test cricket and then opening is an uphill battle for the best, forget an average player like Karthik. If he has to keep he must bat lower down the order, however I would prefer him over Pappu/Pant in case Saha doesn't recover from the injury.

How did Pant keep in IPL, I am surprised that he did not make even the squads for both T20 and odis. Any sane selector would select him an backup/understudy for a this long  test tour.

MSK might be worst selector in recent times, he has no progressive thinking and has zero thought for future.

Man you are being very harsh on Saha, he averages around equal/more than the other 2, besides he has more 100s than both PP and DK combined. In fact he even has a 100 outside Asia which a certain so called 'better cricketer than SRT' could never manage in 91 tests !!!! I would argue that at his best with the bat he will at the bare minimum match any other keeper in India's cricket history.

I smell a very sinister agenda being put forth by CSK supporters whenever the issue of Saha comes up. I think they can't stomach the fact that a timid looking, shy, introvert from North Bengal has better test credentials than their thalaiva. I have observed this trend over the past 2 years, whenever Saha performs well they pretend he doesn't exist and the moment he has a bad match they jump on his head. In fact so shameless are these guys that they even hype up a serial failure like Pappu to put down Saha. For them India winning has no meaning, they only desire that Dhoni remain in public memory as a test hero which is a logical fallacy. These people may love their franchise and T20 cricket, but they know in the bottom of their hearts that to be called a great player, test performance is the numero uno criteria. It eats them from the inside that someone so simple looking with no PR machinery is slowly getting his due recognition as India's greatest keeper batsman, at least in the minds of knowledgeable cricket fans.

Saha has been a vital pillar in our quest to number 1 spot in test cricket. He may lack the style but no doubting the substance.....as a matter of fact guys like Steve Smith/Shiv/Graeme Smith/Steve Waugh.... all are rightfully regarded as legends no matter how their runs came. Saha too has played a few clutch knocks in the last 3 years and add to that his ATG keeping (4 missed chances in the last 17 completed test matches !!!), he is the last player whose place should be questioned.

Exactly! Also, without taking anything away from the brave fighting spirit shown by the Irish, the reason IRE v PAK Test was so close is to somewhat extent due to the considerable largesse of the Pakistani fielding. Contrast with the absolute dismantling of England, and you can easily appreciate the importance of a clinical fielding display.

In real cricket, the wicketkeeper is foremost a part of the bowling unit, and it is time people realised that.

Exactly, that is the undeniable truth. Cricket's wicketkeeper is analogous to football's goalkeeper, you can never compromise on quality with either of these 2 positions. In football if a mid fielder messes up his team loses possession of the ball, if a goalkeeper effs up the team concedes a goal. Bowlers get confidence depending on who's behind the stumps, see the effect Parthiv had on Ashwin against Eng 2016/Centurion 2018.....how can you expect a bowler to give his 100% with a serial dropper as the last line behind the stumps? There is a reason CA delayed Gilly's test debut even though he was 2x the batsman the best version of Healy could ever be.

Usually wicket keepers are not opening the batting in test match and they play no;6, or 7 in batting order since batting straight after keeping is a tired job. If so either KL or DK needs to play the position where saha played in Tests.

Selectors should select Rishabh in his place.

But knowing this selection committee the chance of selection of Dinesh Karthik looks more bright.

Dk Actually have very good record in England. But Rishabh should be tried in at least one game for sure.

yea right lol seriously the hype is going to explode on your face. His keeping is still questionable against spin.

And bhuvi/ashwin is a better bat than him. Also the horrendous DRS reviews. The superlative keeping against pacers cant hide other shortcomings.

Most people over 50* would beg to differ: https://m.hindustantimes.com/india-vs-sri-lanka-2017/wriddhiman-saha-proves-pedigree-with-masterclass-behind-stumps-at-colombo/story-pNRx83uLy0jWHqZMw1QosJ.html

In overseas tests Bhuvi/Ashwin are also better than Dhoni. Imagine the nerve of a Dhoni chamcha talking about DRS when it was your thalaiva who blocked DRS usage in India matches hence costing us many test wins.

Blooding Pant in tests in England will be a horror show for the youngster. Best bet would be the LOIs but our selectors select Manish Pandey :facepalm:That leaves us with DK and Parthiv. Knowing Kohli, he'll go with Parthiv.

Why will it be a horror show, if Pant is good enough he should be able to do well. This notion that we need to protect youngsters is ruining them.He should have been part of odis long time ago and he would have been ready for tests at least as backup by now.
