This is the right time for this batch to win the test series in Eng & Aust

Recommended Posts

Most of the players in our side are in their 30s. Its not that they are old and as they say players peak in their 30s, but they are no youngsters either. India perhaps has the most experienced test unit and this is the right time for this batch to win a test series overseas. None of them are spring chicken and most has test experiences overseas. Last time when they toured Aust/Eng, they were a set of youngsters learning the art but now they are in their peak in terms of age/exp. The next time when this batch will tour those countries, they will be grandpa and the ghost of 2011/12 will repeat with ageing players. We need to find young replacements prior to next overseas tours. So this is the time....this is the year...this is the moment for this batch. There are no next for this lot of test players.

Aged 30 or more Players

Vijay - 34
Dhawan - 32
Chepu - 30
Rahane - 30
KD - 33
Saha - 33
Ash - 31
Umesh - 30

350/6 against Afghanistan at home, 500-600 total looking unlikely and we are dreaming of beating Eng/Aus where we will need 500-600 each innings because our pop gun bowlers are incapable of winning any matches. It doesn't matter what age our team is, we still don't know HOW TO WIN overseas. A dead rubber win against SA followed by ODI series has triggered emotional response which gives us hope for Eng/Aus but I have watched Indian cricket team for too long.

Even in batting, we can not have people like Vijay going to Eng/Aus. Watching him bat against Afghanistan today was torture. It will improve when Virat is back, anyway we need more Delhi boys to take fight against the top dogs.

Even in batting, we can not have people like Vijay going to Eng/Aus. Watching him bat against Afghanistan today was torture. It will improve when Virat is back, anyway we need more Delhi boys to take fight against the top dogs.

But historically it was Bombay/Mumbai (Wadekar, Sardesai, Gavaskar, Sachin) and Southie (VVS, Dravid, GR Vishwanath, Kumble, Srinath, Chandra, Prasanna) boys who have taken the fight to top dogs overseas. OTOH most Delhi boys like Bedi, Gambhir, Sehwag, Dhawan have either come a cropper or faked injuries to get out of the heat. In fact the lone Calcutta boy Dada probably showed more gonads overseas than all Delhi players combined.

And hold your horses for Virat's comeback, we remember how he fared in England 2014. The centurion who tortured you today was top scorer then, scoring more runs than all aggressive, brave, lionhearted Delhi boys combined.

Another sincere piece of advice: judge a pitch only after both teams have batted. 350/6 will suddenly look good if we get them all out for 150 tomorrow.

Regarding our bowlers, well historically it has been the other half who have flattered to deceive overseas. Bowlers have set up enough wins but the famed Indian batsmen have let too many opportunities slip because they are always over rated and mental midgets.
