Specially in spiritual issues. They don't want the children to use their brain at home...just follow elders even if the elders are *ed up in the head. There is too much pride in following stupid traditions and belief and any deviation is considered an attack on the respect of the elders. They were Punjabi Delhi family not some villagers .The girl who's engagement was fixed was IT employee .and the guy lalit who was doing all this was his mama. The fact is the family faced many problems and then Lalit who lost his voice claimed he is talking to his father and slowly their problems started vanishing.So most of them believed what Lalit was saying.
