Shardul Thakur named as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in India’s ODI squad

Complete lack of vision and foresight.

All 4 specialist pacers in the ODI squad are now short to medium height, lack natural bounce and are  right armed.

Bumrah is a bouncy and genuinely quick pacer ...  being replaced by a short,  fast-medium guy.

This attack ( without Bumrah ) lacks any variety and bounce.

Why was Khaleel Ahmed not chosen  ?

Shardul is pretty mediocre anyway.

Maybe because Khaleel is quite raw?  The Indian team prefers control and accuracy in their pace bowlers over raw pace and potential.  That much is quite clear.

Having said that, I'm not thrilled with Thakur's selection.  I guess the selectors and team want to send a message that once you are selected into the squad, you are going to get a decent bunch of chances, instead of being written off after a game or 2.  But Thakur simply doesn't pass the eye test.

I don't see any special control and accuracy in Shardul.  That is one of the problems.

He is a very miss or hit type of bowler.

In that case, the initial selection should involve a lot of planning and brainstorming

Agree 100%.  Apart from picking up a bunch of Ranji wickets, I'm not sure what Shardul has really demonstrated to get into the Indian squad.  He doesn't have height/bounce, or pace, or exceptional swing or control.  And its not like we don't have other options, who are at least on paper, potentially better.

^ Dhoni pulling strings of Kohli who in turn pulls the strings of the selectors...
Reason: Dhoni is currently the unofficial captain of Team India in LOIs...

Kohli has give up captaincy to Dhoni (or may be Dhoni has taken over)...

One of the main reasons Dhoni gets so much of hate is that he gets his favourites selected in the team and young talented players are currently in a phase lag of 2 years...

Ok I will be honest, our fast bowling bench strength is very poor. If likes of Bhuvi, Bumrah or Shami gets injured, there are no suitable replacements. Thaur, Unadkat, Chahar, Kaul, Siraj etc are absolute rubbish and oozes mediocrity. If any batsman gets injured, there are 10 readily available to replace them but cant say the same for (fast) bowlers.

@rkt.india - What is happening man? No good bowlers in domestic?
