@velu Buffon a 40 year old is captain of Italy and he is their goalkeeper. In India a wicketkeeper was official captain till age 36 and unofficial captain now :yay:...India-Italy is a perfect fit, no wonder INC party workers ordered 400 kg laddus for their ruling party's President after the 2006 WC triumph :band:

Yorkshire= Man Utd

The most successful club in the country hated by everyone else because of it. Actually I'd rather not say we're like a Lancashire football club. We can be Bayern, Real Madrid or Juventus

Or alternatively...

Liverpool. Used to be dominant but nowadays tend to live on past glories. A few successful years in recent history but few and far between

West Indies = Liverpool Football Club Their glory days were in 70s and 80s.

Fun Fact: Sir Viv is Liverpool fan. Hopefully, Klopp will bring the glory days back.

South Africa Cricket Team = England Cricket Team Both won only one major tournament.

France Football Team = Hindustan Cricket Team Their glory started in 90s/00s with both winning odd world tournament previously.

Australian Cricket Team = Real Madrid Both always have boss teams.

Pakistan Cricket Team = Italy Football Team Dark horses of their respective Sport who have won majors so you can never ignore them.

Italy's Buffon retired from internationals last year, will make a comeback as they need some experienced internationals.

Our Buffoon retired from tests and trying to make a case for comeback by playing tests in ODIs.

10. Zimbabwe: Turkey

  • Had many good players in 90s, early 2000s
  • Childhood nostalgia for kids who followed global events in late 90s and early 2000s
  • Andy Flower=Hakan Sukur, both ATGs who were overlooked because they didn't play for the big boys
  • Quite weak now and may have to wait for a few years before they are taken seriously again
  • Zimbabwe/Turkey origin players helped other top tier teams achieve great success eg Flower brothers for England(test no 1)/Pakistan(CT) while Ozil played a big role for Germany in 2014 WC.
  • Political problems, dictators, human rights violations etc spilled over to sports and sullied the image of their national teams.

11. Afghanistan: Egypt

  • Countries in turmoil because of terrorism, war, political/social unrest->cricket/football is the sole outlet for national identity
  • Success a triumph of human spirit in times of great adversity
  • Only in recent times have they made a global splash
  • Rashid Khan (SRH)=Mohammed Salah (Liverpool), both took their famous leagues by storm and achieved great popularity...both proud symbols of their nations, both full of style and panache
  • Talented but very raw, will take time to mature but have serious potential

12. Ireland: Iceland

  • Small countries
  • Playing for a long time but only in recent times have they qualified for big events
  • Mostly unknown players but whole greater than sum of parts
  • Both gave England lots of heartburn in the big stage....WC 2011 group game and Euro 2016 sending the inventors of the sport into mourning :phehe:
  • Players who carried them this far are old and close to retirement, worries about future because young talent doesn't look that promising....may face a steep decline that will set them back by a few more years.

How about comparing batting styles with teams?

Spain : Gavaskar/Dravid/Atherton/Pujara.

Germany : Sachin/Ponting/Kohli/Sangakkara.

Brazil : Viv/ Lara/ Pietersen/ Sehwag.

You gravely insult Spain. Spain are masters of calculus, masters of dominion. To Spain, football is a matter of philosophy, a matter of intelligence and control and perfectionism, a philosophy where they are always the attacking team and where they are never dominated.

How dare you compare the likes of vulgar and defensive Dravid, Gavaskar and Pujara to Spain who are pure and never dominated?

The pure and never dominated team got knocked out by an inexperienced team like Russia in Round of 16. Spanish team has been criticised for tiki taka style where strikers become almost obsolete.

If defensive batting is vulgar to you then I highly doubt that you follow test matches.

Spain are never dominated. They may be knocked out, but they are never dominated. Why? Because this is the philosophy of Josep Guardiola y Sala and Xavi Hernandez i Creus.

You are clearly fascinated by muscular and physical sports. Maybe go and watch boxing or athletics if you are so fascinated by muscles and physical strength.

South Africa = Arsenal

Bunch of bottlers

Australia = Real Madrid

Arrogant pricks, win with help of referees

West Indies = AC Milan

Past glory, now crap

India = Barcelona

Win at home, crap away :P

Pakistan = Juventus

Match fixers but returning to winning after scandals

New Zealand/Sri Lanka = Atletico Madrid

Small team in the neighborhood of the big team. Few resources but still put up a fight.
