I'm inclined on adding some more all round cover for positions 6-8 instead of our current approach besides Rahul at #3. The last 3 are pure bowlers and 1-8 can all bat. 6-8 can cover 20 overs in general or provide up to 30 in case any full time bowler has a bad day.

 

We're seriously short on batting depth given the current flat wickets and hence stretched the batting to #8 primarily.

1. Make Rahul bat at 3 and Kohli at 4 or at the very least, give a long run to Rahul at 4.

 

2. Throw out Bhuvi from ODI squad. Bumrah, Shami should be our two fast bowlers with Umesh as backup. 

 

3. Since Dhoni is going nowhere, make him bat at 7 after Karthik at 5 and Pandya at 6. At 7, whenever Dhoni comes out to bat, he is left with no choice but hit out or get out.

1)Hardik is clearly not a bowler who can bowl his 10 overs consistently. This team needs another all rounder. 

2) We  need to find another bowler who can strike with the new ball and take wickets upfront. Bhuvi and Bumrah should be preserved till world cup and should only play important matches as they are our main bowlers.

3) Bowlers like Rajpoot, Khaleel, Mavi and Siraj should be given opportunity so that bench strength can be created.

Top 3 is set (upto the wc at least ) ,Raul bats at 4 ,permanent spot till wc no shuffling .

Middle order needs a revamp,dhoni,raina straight out of the team .we need batsmen in the middle order who can get going quickly without wasting much time as we already have the anchors and consolidators in the top4 ,pant comes in at 5,dk/gill at 6 maybe ,pandya at 7 (floater basically) . Iyer,abhishek sharma ,nitin rana ,krunal as backups  .

 

Now coming to pacers  ,bumrah ,bhuvi and shami should be the core for the wc ,then umesh yadav ,ankit rajpoot ,khaleel,mavi ,nagarkotti as backups. Kuly ,chahal mainstay along with gowtham,markande as backups

Dunno about Gill or Iyer, Krunal and Sundar might be our primary allrounders after Raina finally retires....
Nitin Rana will never get a chance and Abhishek Sharma's career will either die or he will not get a chance till he is in his late 20s/early 30s and fulfills the criteria of being old and experienced.

 Every bowler ll be figured out eventually. Make the most of it while You can. It happened with mustafizur, where we were clueless in that BD tour. Later on he was kind of figured out in his 2nd edition of IPL.

We are in a very tough spot

 

Let us see who are top 3 LOI bowlers

Bumrah,

Kuldeep,

Chahal

 

Which means opposition needs to get only 7 wickets.

 

Now who will partner Bumrah

If we play Bhuvi or Thakur or Chahar because they can bat a bit,then we have a hopless opening bowler. Bhuvi is hit or miss but the other 2 are just buffet bowlers. This will mean we will have only 3.5 bowlers

 

Now if we play Umesh,Shami or some other youngster than we have potentially 4 duds with the bat

 

Then we have our NO.7 Pandya. Hit or miss with both bat and ball.

 

Then MSD who will play till 2019 no matter how much we complain so pretty much or 6-11 can't bat or cannot create an impact so the Top 5 have to do the heavy lifting

 

Now 4 and 5- There will be musical chairs between Jadhav-Pandey-Rayudu-Raina-Karthik-Rahul-Rahane for these 2 slots and none of these have either made the slot their own or have been given confidence with an extend run- so our batting is unreliable for 4-11

 

That leaves us with Top 3

Rohit and Dhawan are both hit or miss but when one of them get stuck in especially on easy surfaces,they can win games but the next game can look clueless.

 

Kohli is a champion batsman and he owns the No.3 position.

 

Bowling see above,we are a team of 3.5 or at best 4 bowler team with 10-15 overs of all you can eat buffet for the opposition.

 

Overall we are screwed,so solution is close your eyes and meditate and concentrate on the dot.
