Tendulkar just stops short of criticizing PUJARA

Recommended Posts

tendulkar in an interview-

The curious case of India's batting bulwark Cheteshwar Pujara is a pertinent example in the present context. Pujara recently consumed 70-odd balls to get off the mark in a County game for Yorkshire, revealing that there could be a psychological block he's struggling with.

(When asked), Tendulkar does admit "It's far too much. Again, I'm not trying to be critical here. It's good to be cautious, good to respect the conditions, but...," he trails off.

The former India batsman does acknowledge Pujara's strength as No. 3 in Test cricket does rely on wearing down the opposition. That, he says, is a good weapon in the batting armoury. "(But) There needs to be a good deal of balance between wearing down the opposition and tearing them down. Batsmen need to understand that balance," says Tendulkar.

lol....if that was a private discussion rather than an interview....tendulkar would have criticized this 'snail '....

good on tendulkar, you cannot criticize the players of ur own country openly...after all, every country is not pakistan

Pujara has been "overglorified" by the hackmaster Shastri, calling him ChePu, for his defensive abilities. Back in the Ranchi test against Aus, when we crossed 500, he took zero initiative to score quick runs against SoK or Lyon and up the ante, same for Saha but he's a pure WK. Outside Asia he simply shuts shop & doesn't have the strokes to pace his innings, if Pujara doesn't do something about his S/R he'll join a long and never ending list of (test) failures for India abroad.

Pujara is a hack and should be criticized openly. He has been allowed too much to play game to his liking and hurting team during this.

Kohli was right in criticizing him. Pujara isn't scoring runs anyway. It's better if he is pressurized to change the game. He doesn't deserve the leverage he is getting for 7-8 years.

He has been playing outside Asia consistently for almost 5 years and averages 27 with bat and that too at SR of 39.

That's tailender stuff at no 3. He face 70 balls per inning on average.  So, it's not that he manages to survive long for without scoring runs. For a good no 3 batsman, his average number of deliveries faced should be somewhere around 85-100.

Since 2014, he has been surviving 61 deliveries per inning.

Only Shami has worse average than Pujara. How is he any different from Rohit Sharma?

Pujara (3 fifties in 28 innings)
Bhuvi (3 in 17 innings)

Ashwin (2 100s 1 50 in 18 inning)

Jaddu/Shami (1 fifity each in 13 and 22 innings)

Avg balls before dismissals

Dhawan 50

Pujara 61

Bhuvi 63

Rohit 64

Saha 65

Ashwin 67

Vijay 84

Kohli 84

Rahane 90

It's myth that Pujara surives at no 3.

if he fails, i have absolutely NO DOUBT that pujara will be kicked out just like rohit vada paav.

No I think, he'll stick around. Talent already has 10 extra tests than what he should've played, away from Asia. I'm sure Koach & drunken master will find a way to justify his selection :two_thumbs_up:

Is this guy even real? There is no comparison between Rahane and Rohit. Rahane is a very important player of our test 11. You never drop a player like him for a hack like Rohit.

No wonder after 3 years, except for Virat no other batsmen is settled in the team. There are 5 batting spots uncertain until the match day? Lol I think even in the 90s we had more stability

Pujara has scored on toughest of the pitches in India, on square turners. Pujara is already an Indian ATG based on his home record alone, very much like Sehwag who also averages 33 in SENA countries.
