Poll Results : ICF's Playing 11 for 1st Test

Recommended Posts

I highly doubt Shami is any sort of form/fitness.

Vijay and Pujara are in terrible form. At least one of them should be out, if not both.

Dhawan should just about get in, based on his good form and bad form of others.

If the pitch is of flattish type and not too green,

M Vijay

S Dhawan

K Rahul

* V Kohli

A Rahane

+ D Karthik

H Pandya

R Ashwin

K Yadav

U Yadav

I Sharma

It's a bit weak in pace bowling, but strong in middle order batting (3-8) and spin bowling.

After the two polls

Here is ICF's Playing 11 (Assuming Bhuvi-Bumrah to be unavailable)

Vijay

Rahul

Pujara

Kohli

Rahane

DK

Ashwin

Kuldeep

Shami

Umesh

Ishant

Except the openers and Pandya, I think this is on the expected lines.

No Dhawan? Pujara and Vijay make it. Only on ICF.

I don't know how so many sensible posters are picking just 2 specialist pacers in test matches in England  !

It won't give us the optimum combination.

A few possible reasons ..

1) Possibility of dry/flat english pitch at this time of the year.

2) Unavailability of our 2 premium pacers in Bhuvi/Bumrah and uncertainity of Shami's form/fitness.

3) Kuldeep's mystery and Ashwin's strong record against left handed batsmen.

Combination of the above reasons ... some are leaning towards spin centric bowling attack at least for the 1st test.

The pitch has to be seen first before any such radical decisions.

Let's say it is a greentop ... no captain would like to go with 2 proper pacers, even if the conditions remain dry.

If the pitch is flat ...  7 batters,  including Ashwin, should be ok ... and play 3 specialist pacers + 2 specialist spinners.

Of course the pitch has to be seen first. If it's a greentop, a 3rd frontline pacer must be selected even if it's a debutante.
