zen
I would have liked if the squad was selected for the first 2 test only vs 3 tests as if we perform poorly in the first two tests, there is still a theoretical possibility to salvage the series. If we are 0-3 in the first three tests, the changes for the next two tests would not help India to claw back I hope that Ind does well in the first 3 tests, however considering the worst case scenario of 0-3 (or even 0-2) after the first 3 tests, what changes would you like for the remaining two tests? I know this is a little early to discuss but want to see how do we plan for the upcoming overseas tours UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment
Gollum
Are baba if we are 0-2 down after 1st 2 tests expect a torrent of niggles. That is the policy of this regime. Anyway I am not thinking that far ahead and hope the boys too take it one match day session at a time. Besides tough to predict without knowing what will happen, if we are 0-3 that means most players aren't firing and we may need large scale changes. zen
This is a tricky thread as ideally you should not be making wholesale changes. An experienced player does not become good or bad after 2-3 tests. This discussion is more about are we investing in spent forces (in this format), is it time to move ahead, etc. Link to comment
zen
Diving deeper, if these players fail, we have to move on from them in this format - Dhawan, Karthik, Ishant, and may be Vijay. Don't know if likes of Shrudul should have been in the test squad in the first place .... May be consider a new management team for this format, the one that I usually follow the most Create a plan to groom talented players such as Shaw, Gill and Pant. Bring in some young fast bowlers. Try to develop spinners such as Kuldeep as ones who can be useful on most surfaces Batsmen (all conditions): Kohli, Rahul, Shaw, Gill and Pant Batsmen (home / subcon and overseas): Pujara and Rahane WK: Saha, Pant (already listed among batsmen) and Kishan (?) AR: Pandya and ? Wkt taking Spinners (all conditions): Kuldeep Wkt taking Spinners (home / subcon): Ashwin and Jadeja (other options?) Wkt taking Pacers: Bhuvi, Bumrah, Shami (if fitness is maintained), Yadav, new batch Edited July 29, 2018 by zen UrmiSinhaRay and tweaker 1 1 Link to comment
Chandan
Most importantly, remove Kohli and Shastri from captain & coach if you lose 5-0. UrmiSinhaRay and raki05 1 1 Link to comment

Moochad
Worse than a 5-0 loss would be a 5-0 loss with no changes to the XI If worse comes to worse and we are down 3-0, Kohli must start developing other players/backups. There would be no sense in playing same team with series over nevada, Switchblade and UrmiSinhaRay 1 1 1 Link to comment

Straight Drive
We cannot go on and on with the FTB's. A revamp is required. One point of time we had lots of batsmen averaging over 45 as well as couple over 50. Those high standards are nowhere seen in this generation apart from Virat. Link to comment

Straight Drive
Once upon a time: Sehwag, Sachin, Rahul Dravid, Saurav, VVS Now: Virat A country which produced ATG test batsman frequently is now struggling to find any batsman with average of 45 apart from Virat Kohli. chewy
This is a weak England team, especially their batting If India can’t win this series even with this squad, then India will probably never win a series in England and SA in near future UrmiSinhaRay and Straight Drive 1 1 Link to comment

The England team is all about Joe Root, Ben Stokes, James Anderson and Broad. Out of which Ben Stokes is already out, so they are reduced to 3 good inform players. So this series is the best chance for Team India to win. Link to comment
zen
Selectors would need to make changes to the squad. I say pick for the next two tests Kohli has to accept responsibility too Link to comment
Stradlater
Worst case scenario will be 5-0. We will cry and moan for a while and then come IPL and all shall be forgotten. Mumbai vs Chennai zindabad! Who cares about these boring tests anyway. Remember that inning of lifetime played by Hardik bhai against KKR. Now that's real cricket. UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment
