Overhyped batting line up - this Indian team reeks of mediocrity

You can't blame Kohli for the missed chances. Yes he was lucky, but sometime fortune favors the brave. Many players have gone on to score big after they are let off. Gavaskar was left off 4 times in an innings in WI  tour of 1970-71.

There is no doubt that he is determined to score in England and after a nervous start, he did make some adjustments with batting out of his crease and playing late under his eyes. When was the last time we had a player that basically brought us back into the game single-handedly from a losing position? I think last time was VVS Laxman who did this with some consistency. I agree about the rest with you. Bunch of jokers in the team. Very disappointing.

I am not blaming Kohli in fact credit to him for making full use of the chances.

However in the difficult paasage of the play he was not tidy and after that Root spread the field to give him easy singles. Bowlers started bowling different lines to him.

Overall I meant not a single batsman in this innings has shown that they worked on their weaknesses since last tour.

Our golden period in overseas conditions was from 2002-2010

2002-2010 was good in 2002-2006 we did not win series but started competing overseas just had one disastrous NZ tour. I will take drawn series in Aus England gladly at this point.

Except Kohli, everyone else in the batting lineup is under pressure to keep his spot in the team. Backing this group for the entire series seems the only option to get better results. No one can do well if their place is in doubt every game. That being said, failure of the entire lineup is very disheartening and one can only hope this is the bottom and the path ahead is upwards.

lol.. too much overreaction. This is only the first innings and these guys are the best we have got. It's not their fault that they are still playing for their place in the team. Too much chop and change has put doubts in their minds. Give them some space and time. Kohli was lucky enough to even cross 50 yesterday and he is our best batsman.

I would also like to add one thing if you see the batters they give you a feeling that they are worried, i could be wrong though see not often do you see Rahane playing like that, or Vijay for that matter means there is some mental pressure on them

How is Kohli hyped  ?

He has been amazingly consistent with the bat in every country in tests and ODIs for the last 4 years... while scoring big centuries too.

that exactly what creates hype.  Hype extravagant talk.

In the age of internet and social media, excessiveness of publicity for a superlative performer must be seen in the background of what other ordinary players are receiving too.

i did not say it is wrong. i only meant that Kohli is the only really celebrated batsman in this team. Only Kohli stays, other comes and goes.

I disagree . There is enough talent around , the same set of batsmen hardly had one failure in our last set of away tours , they would have been better prepared if not for our captain clueless .

Virat is the only batsmen in the line up whos not been dropped in the last 2-3 years , so its not very surprising that hes the only one who looks good .

We really need atleast another test batsman who is a consistent performer both in Asia and outside.

Hoped either or both of Rahane and Pujara will be so ... they have the game to do it but just being test specialists is perhaps affecting them mentally.

I am not sure Rahul has the hunger for success needed to be a superlative test performer, at least as of today. May develop it later, who knows !
