Take a bow Kohli!! one of his best knock

Recommended Posts

First thing to get out of the way. Yes he was dropped but Conditions and bowling at one point was so good that he needed that slice of luck. Smith in Pune played one of ATG innings which was awarded be knock of the year (he was dropped multiple times then). so yes maybe not a peerless knock but it was not all luck. Even in the early part of the innings there was a lot of application and clarity of mind. Great thing about Kohli (Like Sachin) is his relentless drive to keep improving himself. He has worked on his flaws and keeps trying to get better. It is a great pointer to a lot of young batsman around. It does not matter how talented you are or how you start. What matter is how you improve and perform when it is demanded of you.

His batting with the tail was some of the best I have ever seen. He had so much confidence in his ability to score and rotate strike at the end of the over that he never got desperate. He just tired out the bowlers and kept on going.

This was an innings of so much deliberation and planning. Kohli is also someone who really soaks in the pressure and enjoys the occasion. He really likes to play in these situations and wants to win always. He enjoyed the Wanderers murderous track and the amazing swing bowling out here so much because he wants to be the best in all conditions.  He will still get out now nut it would not be for want of application of trying. If anyone deserved luck it was Kohli who was doing everything right as much as it was possible.

He has faced down the toughest of challenges against best of the attacks on really tough situations. It is so inspiring and blessed to be following his career. I really want him to achieve great things.

We may still lose this series - their fast bowlers outbowled ours. I think Bhuvi is being missed a lot. But I am hoping Kohli inspires this team to really fight hard no matter the result.

Read a tweet today, something along the lines of "Feel sorry for Kohli haters, who are too busy being bitter and shifting goal posts to be able to enjoy ATG in front of them"

yes people have been piling on him for variety of weird reasons. Not doing well in England was their biggest go to excuse for a long time even after doing well in much tougher places like SA. This totally destroys them.

Fox Sports Australia before the start of this test match created a video on their FB page titled 'Some of the best shots of Kohli' and put his 2014 dismissals against Anderson there

Boy, these Aussies absolutely envious of Kohli

Has anyone noticed the change in his batting stance for this test? Yes he missed out few leg side flicks due to this stance but his 4th stump line judgement improved. But hope he goes back to his previous stance come LOIs.

There was absolutely no change in his batting stance :cantstop: he made same mistakes like in 2014 only lucky to get away with it this time, 2 drop catches and few fell short...

His greatest test knock IMO :hatsoff:, and an ATG one irrespective of how the game unfolds. Forget the difficult conditions and quality of bowling which make a great knock stand out even more, the most impressive part was Kohli conquering his mental demons.

In 2014 he had the worst show in Eng in the entire history of cricket and here he was being tortured by his nemesis Anderson in the 1st part of his innings. He was lucky 100% agree but I tend to overlook that....sometimes catches are dropped and other times blinders taken to halt promising innings, not Kohli's fault the Poms couldn't hold on. But it takes immense mental fortitude to refocus after being dropped and tormented by a dream passage of bowling. SRT had this shortcoming, most of the times he was dropped, he would get 20 more and throw it all away. Ponting was the opposite, drop him and he would put his head down and take a vow to make the b@stards pay...I am so glad VK has chosen the Ponting route. In many ways he is the modern version  of Ponting. He made the Poms pay yesterday and that was satisfying to watch because we have been at the receiving end of such costly drops many a time. Kohli is ruthless, his greatest trait and something we don't associate with Indians.

Also the way he shepherded the tail yesterday was a masterclass in batting with the lower order. Smith may be the greater player but Kohli will be the prototype for future batsmen. He has finetuned the art of batting, narrowed it down like a mathematical formula.....has done to batting what Djokovic did to tennis. Cricket academies will teach students batting based on Kohli's videos...a whole generation of batsmen will arrive who will mimic his approach to the game, not just technique but also other components.

There is...watch it closely. He is more upright in this game.

As far as drop catches is concerned, its bound to happen when the ball is swinging so much. In England, you will score runs off edges. At least Kohli didn't throw away his wicket like our other heroes.

and one not given by umpire on bouncer where they had no DRS left. Still great knock.  Smith's knock in Pune is considered great despite 5-6 drops. Kohli only had 3-4 lives.
