India is completely down and out in this series and facing a serious threat of a whitewash. There were lots of expectation prior to the tour from ranked 1 side but against masterful swing bowling of Anderson and co., Indian batsmen had no answers. In the first test in Birmingham, thanks to Kohli's masterclass innings, India gave a tough fight to England but Lords test was a complete meltdown for touring team. India lost the game in 2.5 days and as expected faced a lots of criticism from experts like Boycott, Hussain, Gavaskar etc. Going into Trent Bridge, India might make couple of changes - Rishabh Pant may debut replacing Karthik and Jaspreet Bumrah may replace Kuldeep Yadav. England may bring in Ben Stokes for Adil Rashid.

Can Virat Kohli's boys make a resurgence in Trent Bridge or will it be another rout?

Rishabh Pant might be in line for his Test debut, based on the training session India had at Trent Bridge two days before the third Test. Dinesh Karthik, who kept wicket for India in the first two Tests, was feeding balls to Pant during the wicketkeeping drills.

It is not known whether Karthik, if he does miss the Test, will be sitting out due to bad form with the bat or any injury. At Lord's on the third day, Karthik was seen wincing in pain after he collected a wide delivery from Hardik Pandya. Indian team physio Patrick Farhart attended to Karthik at the end of that over and taped his fingers. Karthik did eventually do some keeping later at training though, indicating that he is fit.

Despite doing a decent job behind the wicket, Karthik has had a miserable time with the bat in both the Tests. Out of the four innings, he had two ducks, and 20 of his 21 runs so far came in the second innings at Edgbaston. What has been worrisome for the team think tank is Karthik's fraught technique, which has resulted in him getting bowled twice and lbw once.

Today at training, Pant batted after all the specialist batsmen had finished their rounds. Does this then mean the swashbuckling batsman, who gained prominence based on his exploits in the limited-overs versions, is set to be blooded?

It was a bold call on part of the selectors to pick Pant in the Test squad. For his part, Pant, who has already played four T20Is for India, showed his readiness during India A's tour of England. In the two first-class matches he played on the tour, Pant scored a total of 189 runs, at an average of 63 including three half-centuries.

Asked if India would hand a Test debut to Pant, head coach Ravi Shastri said wait for the toss on Saturday. "About Rishabh, you will know 11am day after," Shastri said at Thursday's media briefing.

Meanwhile, Kohli had a light training session and batted fluently, seemingly without any difficulty, in the nets, and also took part in fielding practice. Kohli had picked up a stiff back during the second Test, for which he had required treatment. Kohli then admitted that the pain was severe and did not allow him to run with the same intensity on the field and when he came out to bat on the fourth day at Lord's. But now the signals are positive for India, suggesting that Kohli is likely to be fit for the third Test, something England head coach Trever Bayliss too pointed out after having watched Kohli at training this morning.

Oh then India definitely has some chance.
Adil Rashid was pretty useless in the last match while Sam Curran proved with both ball and bat in both the previous matches.
Infact, it was his bat which saved the Britishers' face in the first match else they were gonna lose it.
I feel sad for Curran.
India might have a good time in Trent Bridge.

0-3 coming up unless something dramatic happens
IDK-India is gonna add Rishabh Pant who is in great form while England dropped Sam Curran for Stokes/Adil Rashid.
However, Pant hasn't been exposed to any of this players bar Woakes so let's see?

Personally I think we are pretty regressive and over reactionary.
While I think the inclusion of Ben Stokes is an idiocy-Sam was in real good form and delivered with the bat both times and it is a good chance for India to win.
But then, why we are clambering for the likes of Gabbar and Maggi Sharma to come back?
Why can't we be patient with Murli Vijay for once?
Why not Play Kartik as a pure bat?

We can but they are in the "declining" stage of their life cycle. Currently, they are struggling to put bat to ball. Do you think they would have improved in the last few days?

No but is Dhawan better than these guys?
Better to try Karun Nair TBF because Dhawan is also past it so let's experiment.

I hope that the players know what the 11 is so they can prepare mentally for the game .... it is not good to leave things to the last minute where everyone is wondering who would be playing .... Conditions are not going to change dramatically overnight

I think they tell everybody who are playing and who are not before the match.

no.  it does not work like that.  it is always decided and told to player the night before the game.  They will have meeting tonight and then tell players who is playing.  They might have even decided who is playing before the two-day net session as karthk did not practice so he knew he isnt playing

Umesh is too unreliable.  Ishant cant spearhead but is a good 3rd seamer.

Why not try the other seamer - Shardul? I haven't seen him much to see how impactful he can be in tests

That's I'm saying - they Get to know who is playing the night before.
Kartik Is definitely not gonna be the wicketkeeper it seems.
