Performance meter so far:

Positives

Batsmen:

  • Kohli: He is having a remarkable series. Turned it around
  • Pujara: Put in a lot of hard work, which is finally paying off. Has hit back to back 50+ scores. Can say he turned it around too

AR:

  • Pandya: won Ind a test with his game changing spell. Played a few gusty knocks with the bat and a run a ball 50

Bowlers:

  • The key pace bowlers have done well. They could have done better but cannot complain

Question Marks

  • Rahul: Yet to get a 50+ score. However, he is relatively new so in the question marks category
  • Pant: New
  • Ashwin: Has performed here and there but not consistent enough

Negatives

  • Dhawan: played better than expected but may not merit a longer run
  • Rahane: though he has one good inning, hasn't looked good enough to merit a longer run

Selectors' Blunders

  • Sent Kuldeep back
  • Did not pick Siraj

As things stand at this moment, Shaw and Vihari should start practising ....

we have lost a great chance of closing out this test but that Kohli shot.  he was rattled by Moeen of all.

Even now, we are in a touching distance of England score and the bowlers only have to repeat their first innings heroics and get a 4th innnings target of < 250. Then it is all up to the batsmen to make up the chase successful.

It will be interesting to see Ind's game plan for the test at Oval. Will the team make wholesale changes or less than 2 changes?

So far the definite starters include: Kohli, Pujara and Rahane (just managed to secure his place for the last test), Bumrah, Shami, and Ishant. I don't think they should drop youngsters Pandya (who is inconsistent and now likely to have a good game) and Pant. Dhawan is a team favorite. That leaves Rahul and Ashwin.
