Why do most of them speak English in most of the interviews? From where do they get this complex that they have to speak just in English?

Have to show that they are very sophisticated and have high standards most of them are fake.

Coz unlike Pakistani celebrities they know how to speak English.:p:

Now compare their English to Akshay Kumar

You can see the difference in their English while Pakistani actors who can't speak "good English" are speaking it with a flow while Akshay looks like someone who would, at best, score 5 in an IELTS test.

Why do we write in english?

Why do we visit forums that are in english?

Why not use our mother tongue?

They are actors in Hindi/Hindustani films, they are expected to talk in Hindi at least. The fact is they look down upon other actors who don't know English with a posh accent. Nawazuddin, Anupam Kher, Kangana have spoken about this. That is a fact that they are pretentious and superficial about knowing English. Even the Film journalists carry around this colonial hangover.

You do realize those Pakistanis whose videos you posted are Brits and Canadians?

Akshay Kumar is also Canadian who has spent his whole life in India.

That's exactly what I was talking about. You see in Koffee with Karan, Almost all the guests and the sissy himself speak in such a posh accent which would put an average American and British to shame

All of them are working in Pakistani films. Same could be said about celebs like Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif etc in Bollywood but it was an answer to the person who said Pakistani actors can't speak English and btw Fahad and Hamza are Pakistanis and don't have dual nationalities like other two and even Ali Zafar speaks perfect English for someone who has never lived in US or UK.

because English is lingua franca of the globe, most spoken Indian languages are actually hinglish, benglish, etc. and smart people put business over superficial sentiments ?

If somebody is acting in Polish cinema, they , the audience,  expects the actor to speak in polish. Apprently, in HFI, it is about how well you know English is the benchmark. Do you even know what we are talking about?

Polish, unlike Hindi or Bengali or bunch of Indian languages, is not 'Eng-polish'.
And it would be smart if they did - cater to a global audience. Especially for a poor nation like India, where 1 BBC interview can pay more than 10 ZeeTV interviews. Good for business.

One of the FEW advantages India has, in this global market, is our ability to speak English. Nationalistic idiots who are trying to undermine that, are classic example of how nationalists are not real patriots. For a patriot would do whatever necessary to advance the cause of his/her people and nation. Not prop up feel-good ideologies and propagandas at the expense of his/her fellow citizens.

There is no fu cking nationalism here. The consumer of Bollywood is Hindi cow belt and the narrative is you need to know posh English to be successful. This is not a business/IT field where knowledge of English helps to promote business. Koreans/Chinese/Iranian cinema is different in this aspect. They thrive despite not being superficially proficient in English, why not expect the same for Hindi/Hindustani?

cow belt ? really ? coz i am pretty sure hindi movies are more popular than Bong movies in Bong-land. same applies to almost all non-southie states.

Remnants of the colonial era where the brown sahibs would status-signal by their English-speaking ability.

It's not just Bollywoodiyas, it's an India problem of the sepoy class of people fawning over anyone who speaks English.  They will invent all kinds of contrived reasoning of why English is some magic language.

Pro-tip, if you want to trigger this class of people, just make fun of their English. This lot feel like insults to their English is a worse insult to them then abuses to even their mother/father :((

Dude. I am pleasantly surprised that i can agree with a left leaning liberal i am guessing you are one( not expecting you to respond to this). I am a right leaning centrist and often find left self defeating in their opinions.

i usually get along best with 'leaners' - left leaning preferrably, but right after, are the right-leaning ones. Because by definition, if you are true to yourself and a left/right leaning person, it means you are more or less a centrist, not a blind mouse following leftist/right wing propaganda over everything, but overall your preferences fall one way or another through study, analysis and preference. Thank you.

This could be the reason. Hindi isnt a native language for many Indians. They will deliver the lines given to them for the movie but to speak live without a script might be a bit intimidating for these guys.

Agree with you there. That could be the reason as Hindi isn't their Native Language but somehow English is. So fair enough for them to give interviews and promote movies in their Native Language which is English.

Obviously English isnt their native language but if they studied in English medium schools and spoke some dialect at home as kids their Hindi could end up being pretty poor.

They would probably prefer speaking broken english on television than poor hindi simply because less people will be able to call them out on it.

On the other hand, Akshay is a legit celebrity unlike that random assortment of Pakistani.

Exactly my thought. Even most illiterate North Indian have more extensive vocabulary and uses Hindi words more carefully and appropriately.

That would expose them. Look at Amitabh. He does interviiews in Hindi. remember how KBC became flop with Shahrukh khaan.

Na adab hai, na afazz hai na tehzeeb hai, na nazakat hai, na buniyaad hai. Kya khaak guftagu karenge ye Hindi ya urdo mein.

"The Constitution of India designates the official language of the Government of India as Hindi written in the Devanagari script, as well as English.[2] " (wiki)

Then how do they act in the movies? They don't need voice-overs. Salman Khan has been hosting BB for now almost 10 years and never seen him trying to bakwaasing in English. This inferiority complex only lies in idiots like Alia Bhatt and other new actors.

Everyone have their weaknesses. For example: Alia Bhatt conversing in hindi, Sallu Bhai acting.

Its funny you are calling them out on their hindi and then you go on to write a whole paragraph almost entirely in Urdu

There will be few wannabees in Bollywood or anywhere for that matter who would feel that doing certain things or as in this case speaking in English is cool. But most of them speak in English because they have grown up in an environment from

where they have picked up speaking English and it actually comes naturally to them. Also in a country where English is a common language it shouldn’t matter.

But yeah, making fun of other actors is childish and foolish.I don’t know if top actors actually do that. Only few wannabees will make fun of a fellow actor for his/her English.

Ghalib uttar bharat ki hi paidaesh hai.

North India used to be very rich in language. Hindi urdu sanskrit and offcourse local dialects like awadhi maithili braj.

As @Laaloo said. Most Hindi superstars themselves do not have command over Hindi language( infact any language)

Come on, it's actually their bread and butter. The star kids off Bollywood do that hoping that they might get spotted by Hollywood or British casting "scouts". Speaking in native language means they get ignored. Meanwhile a struggling or a lesser known artist avoid Hindi because they know they can't be tied down to a single Industry, so it may give them some chance in South, vice versa with southern artists.

This not just India, the Chinese and the latins do that too.
