“There was so much help available on this wicket (Southampton) for the off-spinners. Just landing the ball at that particular rough patch would have fetched a lot of wickets. That is exactly what Moeen Ali did and got so many wickets. India lost the match where Moeen Ali bowled better than R Ashwin. For the first time, I saw England spinners bowling better than our spinners. Him (Ashwin) not being able to take wickets is the reason why we are 1-3 behind in the series,” Harbhajan Singh told India Today.

“Ashwin is a great bowler and has achieved so much for India. But he failed to take wickets when it mattered the most — that is on Day 3. Had he taken just two or three wickets, not even a five-wicket haul, then India would have been chasing a target of 160-170 runs for victory which was very much achievable.”

“I really don’t know how serious was Ashwin’s injury. If it was serious then the team management should have known it. And if he was really fit then he failed to bowl like it was expected of him. Moeen Ali was making a comeback in the England team and won the Man of the Match award. He is a very good bowler though does not rate himself so highly. He will always bowl better than the rest as his trajectory is very good. Indian team has not been able to find any solution to his bowling since 2014 when he performed exceptionally well against us at the same venue,” he said.

When and where does Bhajji take these digs? He speaks nothing in comm box and sits like a statue.

Ian Ward: "Bhajji how do you access Ashwin's bowling so far. He is not being that effective"

Bhajji: "Yes he is not being effective"

Silence

Ian Ward: "Ok, you think he should he should utilize the rough more?"

Bhajji: "Yes there is a big rough...you know and he should use it more"

:phehe:

May be he is a “tubelight”

I am no fan of Ashwin but I absolutely despise this Harbhajan.Ashwin failed but didn't chicken out citing a injury.

Unfortunately He is there as an expert so he made a valid point but it was funny that last year he bashed Dhoni and now after Dhoni’s abysmal batting at Lords he was defending MS and congratulating him for 10,000 runs next year he might change his tunes again as he is heading to Delhi Daredevils as a mentor won’t be surprised if he promotes Nadeem or Amit Mishra.

Maybe he is better in print interviews where he can think his answers, take few minutes and then speak.. or some one writes for him :cantstop:

You are lucky to listen to him ever since he asked Isha Guha that you must be supporting India since you are an Indian Sony has cut him off and we get Harsha and Sanjay maybe for Sony it’s embarrassing but for us it’s sad as we are denied entertainment.

She actually gave him a very classy reply. Isha Guha is a very average commentator and analyst. I will go ahead and say she is pathetic but thanks to Bhajji, she got the standout moment of her commentary career.

On Topic though Bhajji is spot on with his criticism. However if he is consistent on his criticisms on pathetic team selections, coaching, captaincy and failures of other players apart from Ashwin it is fine. If he is mum on everything else and is targeting just Ashwin then there is malice.
