Preview:

It will be the final time India and England clash in this 2 month long series. Team India went into this series with lots of expectations but only have T20 series victory to show against its name. Having lost both ODI and Test series, they would like to finish in a high. From a series perspective, this test may be a dead rubber but with test championship upcoming all tests are crucial. India having come close to victory on both Edgbaston and Southampton tests but couldn't get the job done. This was a series lost not because Eng played some brilliant cricket but rather India played poorly. It will also be Alastair Cook's last test and Eng will try their best to give cook a winning farewell.

Its also the first time team India will be playing at Oval since the last year's CT debacle.

India is expected to make few changes with young Prithvi Shaw may replace Dhawan and Ashwin's injury should make way for Ravi Jadeja. England expected to go unchanged.

So can India salvage some pride and make it 3-2 or Cook will get a fitting farewell with 4-1 victory for Eng?

A dead rubber, so less pressure on both teams. Below are the strengths and weaknesses of Ind based on performances so far:

Weaknesses:

  • Openers
  • Rahane - hasn't performed up to expectations esp. being a SENA specialist
  • Spinner - Ashwin or Jadeja, in the larger scheme of things would not matter. Because If Jadeja is not playing, we think he would have done better. If Jadeja was playing, we would have thought Ashwin would have changed things
  • WK - Karthik did poorly. Pant is new so still adjusting to the learning curve

Strengths:

  • Kohli - How consistent can be remain
  • Pujara
  • Pandya - Impact player. Won Ind a test
  • Pace bowlers

Questions: 6th batsmen, 5th bowler or all-rounder. Again, if 6th batsman was playing, we would have thought the 5th bowler / All-rounder would have been better. If the 5th bowler were playing, we would have thought the 6th batsman / All-rounder would have changed things

Anyways, I hope that somehow someone will have an impact game to make it 2-3. And with that Shastri will have the last bark :p:

Pandya will never be kicked out of Playing XI

Everyone is saying vihari is making debut. I doubt Shaw will get chance. Jadeja is surely playing for ashwin. Vihari will either replace Pandya or Shami.

To be fair everyone is saying vihari is making debut. I doubt Shaw will get chance. Jadeja is surely playing for ashwin. Vihari will either replace Pandya or Shami.

Everyone is saying doesn't necessarily mean he'll play.
Pandya is one player Kohli Is not gonna drop off from Playing XI - Does Vihari provides a bowling option like Pandya?

I see Dhawan/Rahul being dropped for Prithvi and maybe Kartik for Pant
