Indian captain Virat Kohli said during the toss of the fifth Test on September 7 that Ashwin “aggravated his injury”. The spinner suffered a groin injury at Trent Bridge and was unlikely to play in Southampton but he played after coach Ravi Shastri said that he was good enough to take the field. However, while Kohli said the 31-year-old spinner had his injury aggravated, Shastri and Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane had earlier denied the news in the different press conferences according to the Times Now.

As it turned out, the offie couldn’t give his best in the previous game after which the team crumbled with the bat and eventually lost the series.

Saale Ashwin, thora exercise aur weight kam karo. You look like you have horrible fitness for a athlete. Saale India ko represent karte ho, thoda sada vada intake kam karo and bring in some muscle mass, not the flabby self you are now! :frusty:

They have to have thumb rules. Even if someone is not 1% fit he should not take the field. IT is freaking test match. You play over a period of 5 days. you are certainly not helping by playing through injury. The player should have the right to exclude himself in such cases.

Ashwin has this excuse for non performance now going on for a year. He was injured during CT and now. If he did not disclose it then he is to be blamed. If team knew it and still played him it was their fault.
