#5 slot in Tests is up for grabs for WI and AUS series

With the current #5 being the weakest link in our batting in the past 2 years, should Rahane get a run in Aus? If not, who are the viable options? 

 

Below is the line up that is shaping up:

 

• Rahul
• Most likely Shaw 
• Pujara
• Kohli
• ? 
• WK (Pant)
• Open slot depending up on the balance, form and conditions ->  batsman / bowler / AR 
• 4 bowlers

I feel for DK, kinda root for the underdog . I wish he gets a fantastic last 2 years and one final chance of two tests as a pure bat . It's between vihari and Gill I presume.

 

But if they play rahane , DK has zero chances and test career is done.

Vihari higher in pecking order than rahane.

 

Will get 2 windies tests. Rahane will get a chance only if pandya does not play.

 

If they go with 2 spinner  then rahane gets a chance again..

Saha is probably in the last phase of his career. And if Pant performs as a batsman too, in the short team even both of them can play depending up on the combination, form and conditions

Against WI, don't think we need an extra bowler. So both Nair and Vihari should play and depending on the form and the runs scored, either one of them should make it to X1 in Australia.
