King Tendulkar
Re: Greg Chappell Not at all. But constant anti chappell etc becomes veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery boring :sleepy: Reminds me of the bad old days of the other board Link to comment
jf1gp_1
Re: Greg Chappell i think you are being a bit harsh on chappell. you spoke abt multi national tournaments, almost 90% of them had bangla, kenya, zim as 3rd team. Reaching final was no big deal, problem was winning those final. Champions trophy, first time SG lead team went to CT we were out in 2nd round. So its the same result which RD gave. Lets see what happens at WC. Shaking confidence and all is just rubbish, if Sehwag or pathan want to be champion players then they better start acting like one, both have such a lazy attitude that they needed being dropped. Look at ganguly or even zaheer what a return they have had why cause there is character and will. Hopefully sehwag and pathan will learn something from those two. Regarding experimentation and young players, well munaf, sreesanth were discovered we also are taking uttapa so you have 3 players. Yes raina, venu, rp singh seem out of mix but all 3 are young and will make comebacks. Infact even Vengy accepted there were no major talent in domestic cricket so you can blame chappell alone for that. \ Rahul with GC havent taken Indian forward which is a shame. But certainly havent taken few back steps. Link to comment
indfan
Re: Greg Chappell Same old, same old. Looks like cuts and pastes from the other board. Time to get over Ganguly and Zaheer getting dumped - they deserved it. So does Sehwag. If not getting a free ride leads to fear, its the players problem. Scoring a 100 against a school boy attack doesn't count. Try reading the posts - there are people here who don't think Chappell has done a spectacular job. But simply blaming GC (really because of blind love for Ganguly) makes no sense. Stats prove that India has done no worse under Dravid/GC. Link to comment
indfan
Re: Greg Chappell This just about summarizes everything. If India wins, its inspite of GC; if India loses, its all his fault. Heads I win, tails you loose. He wanted Ganguly to give up his captaincy because it was affecting his batting. Where did he say that he wanted his out PERMANENTLY? I suspect its mere speculation on your part. And what's the problem with playing youth? Do you prefer 11 grandpas on the field on wheelchairs? Speaking of the losing streak and how we never had a losing streak under Wright, did we win 16 straight under Wright? And whats the big deal about LOSING in X finals? See how the pro teams are run in the NFL/NBA etc. Simply making the playoffs doesn't cut it, its winning the big one that counts. If RD/GC can't deliver, they will be demoted/fired. --- Chappell has done NOTHING of note...and even If India does well in the world cup...it will be DESPITE him...not because of him Heck he wanted Zaheer and Ganguly permanently gone... and the CHappell YOUTH installed... Thank god we now have a Strong chairman of selectors in Vengsarkar instead of that boot licker More... Link to comment
yoda
Re: Greg Chappell there is absolutely no question that dropping of ganguly and zaheer from the ODI team has helped them perform better now. zak was an overweight POS and ganguly was playing like he his job was giving slip and gully catch practice. chappell (and to some extent dravid) gets credit for booting them out and vengsarkar should get all the credit for bringing them back. irfan pathan has been in a self destruct mode even since jeet-lo-dil 2004 with the exception of series against minnows. bottom line is this: the current team is much much better than the stagnant POS we had during the losing streak prior to chappell coming on board. he has gone all out for changes and some of his changes have worked out (bringing in KKD back, giving chances to uthappa and gambhir, bringing in new bowlers like munaf and SS and getting rid of the facking useless kaif). just because one of their experiments raina failed and he was ruthless to ganguly in tests doesn't mean his sole purpose has been to destroy the indian team. Birbal3
Re: Greg Chappell I agree it is same old...same old... Chappell is the MAHAGURU and does everything with STRATEGIC plan... If you guys can't see a SELF-SERVING Charlatan for what he is... don't trust you can see much... Link to comment
Holysmoke
Re: Greg Chappell Chappell is brilliant. I really like him. Has crushed the status quo and giving players a boot up the arse. Droped gangs and zk. Look at the results. Axed Sehwag, well done. These players needed to sort out the attitude. They may not like him but he ensures they train and give 100%. and he is the first person to be able to do that Link to comment
Legend
Re: Greg Chappell well if u hate chappel, then its problem with u... u ppl create issues, when India doin goood, then u ppl dont bother to hail, but when India looses, then u anti-chappel ppl start topics on chappel... sucks for u anti ppl Link to comment

Birbal3
Re: Greg Chappell Legend...learn to write a sentence mate... what is this u ppl. stuff? Anyway, I am TREMENDOUSLY pleased India is finally Gelling and going into the World Cup on a positive note... I couldn't be happier for the TEAM... and for Captain Dravid... It is only the self-serving, self-praising Coach that I am dead set against... The guy only shows up when the team does well and then tries to HOG all the credit...when the team was doing poorly in South Africa...he washed his hands off them and said it was up to the players to improve... What a CHARLATAN and FAKE... Guess the old saying you can't fool all the people all the time doesn't apply here? Link to comment
Predator_05
Re: Greg Chappell Stats prove that India has done no worse under Dravid/GC. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHY he was WASTE OF MONEY ! India didn't want a mediocre team when they shelled out $200 k on Greg Chappell. I know I sure as hell didn't. Link to comment
Predator_05
Re: Greg Chappell At least GC got rid of kaifu He wanted Kaif in the team (likewise with Raina - who he still rates very highly) but it seems as if he was overruled by Vengsarkar and Dravid. Hence his reported quote to cricinfo; "There were options, but this is the team India wanted". ie; he didn't have his way with the squad of 15 as he'd have liked to. Link to comment
indfan
Re: Greg Chappell Some of these self-serving thoughts might ring a bell: - if India does well, its inspite of GC; if they lose its all his fault - if a player performs poorly under GC, its GC's fault; if he succeeds its because he was inspired by ganguly - if a player performed well under Ganguly, its because of Ganguly's leadership. If he fails, its because the selectors picked "stopgap" players. Link to comment
Birbal3
Re: Greg Chappell Indfan... you need to DISTINGUISH between a fan on the internet trying to give credit to Ganguly for things...and the Greggy situation where he HIMSELF is trying to HOG all the credit... Do you UNDERSTAND the difference? :wall: :wall: :wall: Link to comment
King Tendulkar
Re: Greg Chappell yeah cos no other coach avoid the press when not doing well and then want to speak to them when doing well. All the facking coaches in all sports seem to do it. In fact some of the best coaches in diff sports are some of the most rutheless, arrogant toss pots you could imagine. Look at at fergie and jose. very dislikable people but they get the results. I am sure you yanks can find some similar examples in your sports who are to##sers as well but this actually helps them to get the job done. Link to comment

Birbal3
Re: Greg Chappell If Greggy was simply being rude to the media wouldn't have a problem with it... What I have a problem with is his trying to USURP the credit when the going is good but DISAPPEARING faster than a paratha in the presence of Inzi... when India do poorly... Link to comment
indfan
Re: Greg Chappell Predator: Agree 100%. The ROI on GC is not very good. The expectation was that he would take India to the next level - and to date he hasn't succeeded. The WC performance will dictate whether or not he stays with India. Having said that, if we are going to blame him for everything that goes wrong with the team, then we should credit him what works. Otherwise, its simply a convenient position for people who dislike GC for other reasons (eg. Ganguly being dropped). Link to comment
