“I think Rishabh Pant can claim his spot in the team with about 25 matches to go, it’s still a long way. The team management has been very open trying different options which is something that they will keep an eye on, because he’s got the ability to change the tempo of the game and hit big sixes which will be required in those death overs,” Zaheer was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

 

“They could go with five specialist bowlers, three seamers and a couple of spinners or they would need to find someone who is going to be a replacement for Pandya if he is not available or fit,” the 39-year-old concluded.

Despite the presence of Dhoni, I think Pant will play in the WC as a pure batsman. He and Pandya can accelerate the score towards the end of the inning.

Zak is right. I hope the selectors and Shastri-Kohli heed his advice. Pant could be that x factor player who can play a game changing innings or two for us. Even if he plays not so great, it will be an investment for the future as he will gain the experience of playing in the world cup. Come the next world cup, pretty much all our middle order and even the openers would have retired. We cannot go into a world cup with barely 1-2 players having prior world cup experience.

Do we really have 25 ODIs left b/f the WC? I think it will be good that after the AC we can eliminate some of the players from contention. 

 

Problem is, Dhawan and Rohit have destroyed everyone this AC, so we didn't get much information about who should continue in the squad. Middle order wasn't even tested.
