He still has a good record as an opener but needs to stop being a dead rubber bully.

he wastes so many opportunities and he bats way too casual in the beginning of his innings ( like trying cover drive in the initial overs when the ball was swinging )  ..

but in england even cook struggled , and south africa series was a nightmare for everyone except kohli

He needs to put a price on his wicket. Somehow he's not looking as solid as he was in late 2016-early 2017.

He is such a swing and miss guy , last test he rode his luck , he can’t expect to get lucky every time. He has played 8 consecutive tests now and other than his 100 he has done nothing. Indians play with just five batsmen and one them is this unreliable then we won’t see results any better than what we have seen.

Guys like him along with old guys Pujara and Rahane who is running out of chances too are so inconsistent that they are letting down Indian team’s bowlers who have been awesome.

People have nerve to say he is better than Kohli in tests and Rohit in Odis.

Really don't think he has the technique for an opener, even though I think he will for sure score well the otehr 3 innings of this series. Needs better defense for opening overseas.

He needs to be moved to 3 or 5 to expand his career long term, especially if Rahane continues his decline or Pujara fails again in Aus.

In fact, switching the two in the order can maybe get better from both. Rahane as opener and Rahul as 5. If I am correct Rahane opened for Mumbai some in Ranji?

there wont be a second inning in this game... for India

It is hilarious that people were blaming SA series loss on two non selections of him and Rahane .People were blaming Kohli for his failures on how he was being denied chances in Odis , so he is falling in tests. This guy is responsible for his playing time.

his scores are worse  when we are  (=batting first as opposed to when we are fielding first

Batting First:

filtered 14 793 108 31.72 1 7 - - - - 19 0

Fielding First:

filtered 15 1018 199 46.27 4 4 - - - - 22 0

unfiltered 29 1811 199 38.53 5 11 - - - - 41 0

Except for WI 108, he has all his other 100s when fielding first.

i am extremely impressed with manot kalra ( bats like uv ) , but he is years away ..

just went thru his profile. Almost 1 year older than Shaw. Yet not even a single first class game. That is really surprising & disappointing.Team needs a quality left handed opener to partner a right handed one(hopefully Shaw can do justice). That will provide the  much needed variety at the start.

Right... This season he has to make it count .

First work on the weakness against incoming ball & the nervous starts

We have too many talented batsmen at our disposal in various age group with different level of experience. Selection committee has to make sure that nobody feels left out , nobody gives up and focuses on tonty-tonty-tamasha-league.  Manoj Kalra, Gill, Abhishek sharma, Priyank Panchal, Agarwal to name a few. Few of them may not get a chance for foreseeable future. But it is imperative they should be in the radar all the time.

Just shows how the mumbai mafia works....they'll put everyone but their blue eyed boys under so much stress.

oohoo....if so  then  the mumbai mafia deserves extra credit for testing a youngster as to whether he has the ability  to with stand pressure & criticisms...... this is  because the national team needs players not only of extreme talent but immense mental toughness as well. So badly wish , from here on  not only Mumbai mafia, but  Chennai mafia, Bengaluru mafia, Hyderabad mafia, Dilli mafia , Calcutta mafia etc etc too comes out in full flow against all talented youngsters in any team except from their own mafia province with such severe criticisms  so that only those elite with extreme mental toughness only gets selected to the team.

Why did they not bleed Shaw in England? KL debuted in Aus and then scored a ton (his 2nd test) at SCG (yeah of course flat track and he is no good right). I would have loved to see how Shaw would have fared in SENA and on debut....Go take a hike troll!
