Ravi Ashwin’s limited-overs career has taken a dramatic turn-around in the last 18 months. The way the wrist-spinning duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav has performed, the selectors have no option but to retain them for every series which India plays. Even for the upcoming ODIs against Windies, Ashwin has been overlooked who has expressed his disappointment now. However, he has taken the axing positively and is looking forward to making a comeback.

He last played for India in the coloured clothing in July last year and has been sidelined ever since then. The same thing happened to Ravindra Jadeja who made a stellar comeback in the Asia Cup thanks to a plethora of injuries. He grabbed the opportunity with both the hands and played a crucial knock in the final to win India the tournament.

It is always disappointing

Meanwhile, Ravi Ashwin, while speaking to The Week, expressed his disappointment for not being picked in the squad time and again. But rather than blaming anyone, he has credited Kuldeep and Chahal for the way they’ve performed after getting the chance.

“It is always disappointing for anyone to be left out, but for me, the moment I got into the Indian team it was about excelling. How many teams have the luxury of not having their first spinner in the team? To give due credit, when Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal came, they did extremely well,” he said.

The 32-year-old also took the competition for the places positively and was hopeful of the opportunity knocking his door sooner rather than later. “You have to give them credit. They have done some great stuff. I think competition is excellent. It is all about telling me and (Ravindra) Jadeja—boss, can you up your game? I look at it positively. I am sure one day the opportunity will come and when it does, I should be prepared,” Ashwin added.

He should be in the WC squad as back up spinner. India anyway need to only play one proper spinner in Kuldeep and AR in Jadeja

Rahul

Dhawan

Virat

Rayudu

MSD

Jadhav

Jadeja

Chahar

Bhuvi

Kuldeep

Bumrah

Reserves:

Rohit

Ashwin

Pandya

Fast bowler

We all saw how great Jadeja the imposter was in the Ct finals or against Pakistan in Dubai or even in the finals guy is selfish a pretender we should have either Gopal/Gowtham or Krunal Pandya than a fraud like Jadeja

His batting in the Asia Cup final won us the game against your Bangladesh. So I understand your frustration.......

Lol it was Bhuvi who was hitting boundaries while your beloved Jadeja choked not only against BD but Afghanistan too.He got out when we needed around 15-20 runs no need to play a selfish player in the team a complete liability overseas.

Another stereotypical threadbare deluded bloke  have already cost us ct, hope he never ever plays for India in Odis again.

If you saw his bowling before that during home series against England talking about 50 overs format he was getting smashed by England he was bowling negative line and lengths most of the times from round the wicket never looked like taking a wicket.
