Photo / Reuters The first-ever cricketers' auction is over, and now that the dust has settled and the cheque-books put away in Mumbai, it's time to take a closer look at each of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise squads. There's not enough to allow for thorough analysis of the teams at this early stage, but some trends seem to have emerged. For example, while Hyderabad have gone for dashing batsmen, Delhi have looked for skill and athleticism in the field. Bangalore have chosen some 'hot' quick bowlers, while Kolkata seem to have chosen an experienced batting line-up. Hari you are hyping Chennai unnecessarily. Other teams also have good local talent. And Chennai doesn't have the best Indian players. Others have strong Indian players as well...I still hold that apart from Jaipur all other teams are good and injuries/availability/local talent is gonna decide a lot of things.
What hype ? Chennai is one city that has turned out performing players who win tournaments in the limited overs past 2 years. Chennai has no big players like Dhoni, Yuvraj or Sachin in Ranji team and not even in ICL, still Chennai region has won some important victories past 2 seasons by team effort and youngsters talent, and very high standards of fielding. Both in BCCI conducted tournaments like National T20 which Chennai won and also in ICL T20 and 50 overs , both of which Chennai again won apart from National One day tournament by BCCI in 2005 which Chennai won, the youngsters had performed exceptionally well. Robin Singh had lifted the fielding standards of this region very high and in fact that is why he was appointed the Indian fielding coach, and same way Michael Bevan lifted the ODI standards for Chennai's ICL . Now almost the same bunch of talent pool is available , and Robin is coaching Chennai IPL, which is why Chennai has probably selected the best fielding team in the auction. Players like Raina, Hayden, Oram, Murali , Ntini are worth each Plus 5 runs minimum in the field and Chennai will be Plus 25-30 runs even before the toss. And a team led by one of the finest cricket brains in India Dhoni, who knows what it takes to win limited overs games, and coached by Robin Singh with the above bunch of players should quite easily be one of the frontrunners for the cup , especially when the reserve talent pool is also tremendous.

1. Dravid 2. Kumble 3. Kallis 4. Chanderpaul 5. Zaheer Khan 6. Wasim Jaffer :hysterical: Someone tell B'lore they are not playing Test matches in IPL :hysterical:
Considering fielding and running between wkts, Bangalore is already behind by 30 runs minimum in each game...and the batting will probably average 5 rpo at its best :hysterical:

Oh...u get irritated..guess how Indian fans feel when Dravid is batting ....it was time for the selectors to hit the ignore button and they did. And now shamelessly Dravid has not only slithered into the Bangalore team, he has royally screwed it up even before the tournament started by hogging a totally undeserved Icon status and a Million dollars !!! This was the man who said a few months back he didnt want to play T20 as it was a youngsters' game ??? How many young Indians and internationals has he selected for his Bangalore team ? He was the one advising the Bangalore bidding yesterday. Kallis, Chanderpaul and Zaheer and Kumble ?? What happened to his ideas on T20 just 6 months back ? Tell me honsestly, all of you...if Dravid had been auctioned, ANYONE thinks he would have been picked up at all ? He would have been removed from the auction due to lack of interest, as No one in their right mind will offer to buy Dravid even for $ 100, or even if given free ..LOL...and this man pockets a cool 1 million riding on the back of others and even prevents his team from bidding well or having a budget . I guess Dravid is greedily grabbing every dollar he can get before his last gasp in Intl cricket. SHAME ON YOU, Rahul Dravid..damned hypocrite

^...agreed....Rahul Dravid will come in at #3 and play himself in for 7-8 overs and then make sure he holds one end up and prevent Bangalore from getting allout...when suddenly umpires will say "20 overs" :D

To the original post..you must be freaking drunk to suggest that Jogi, Parthiv and Raina constitute the 'best' domestic limited overs talent..Dhoni is the only star in there..the other three are pretty much wannabe's as of now. Dhoni has got silch confidence in raina, else he wudnt have played Tiwari in the first ODI a day after he landed in Australia while a well acclimitised Raina served drinks! Mohali have got the best domestic talent out of the auctions..Delhi will get the best milegae out of its catchment areas of delhi and UP..the two ranji finalists!
