  1. 1. Keeping world cup in mind, should IPL 2019 be called off?

So we are playing a 8 weeks long IPL just before the team heads off to England for World Cup. IPL gets over on 19th May and world cup starts from May 30th. Though India's first game against SA is on 5th june, but warm ups start the very next week after IPL final. Also the IPL starts immidiately after a gruelling Aust/NZ tour.

Keeping the world cup and fitness of players in mind, should IPL be called off for next year?

BCCI makes loads of money due to IPL so they did not cancel it won't be surprised if stars opt out mid way through the tournament.

According to the Mumbai Mirror, a two-member team is expected to leave Mumbai in a day or two to explore the hypothetical situation of the league being moved there.

The recce is expected to last for about 10 days.

The publication further noted that the team of Hemang Amit and Navneet Kaur will travel to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth to discuss the requirements for the 45-day tournament.

The final decision on the eventual destination for the 12th edition of the IPL will be made after the dates of the general elections are announced, however the BCCI wants to remain prepared.

The United Arab Emirates is also among the countries considered, as it co-hosted the 2014 IPL edition.

However, the Pakistan Super League tournament is scheduled from February 14 to March 17 and might clash with the start of the IPL.

Cricket South Africa CEO Thabang Moroe has stated before that they would jump at the opportunity to host the IPL in SA in 2019.

Meanwhile, South Africa's inaugural T20 tournament, the Mzansi Super League gets under way on November 16 as the Cape Town Blitz and Tshwane Spartans play in the opener at Newlands.

Will be interesting to listen our captain's view on this. He is normally pretty vocal these days about work load management, proper rest before a big tournament etc.

Lets see if he has the same view for mighty IPL or those antics are reserved only for Asia cup / other international games. :nice:

By skipping the IPL he will gain respect for putting country ahead of club and can also avoid putting up another dud season with RCB.

So until world cup, we play:

  • vs WI (in Ind)-  5 ODIs + 3T20
  • vs Aust (in Aust) - 3 T20 + 4 Tests +3 ODIs
  • vs NZ (in NZ) - 5 ODIs + 3 T20s
  • vs Aust (in Ind) - 5 ODIs + 2 T20s
  • IPL
  • World Cup

This is just too much cricket. Hope they rotate players and give chances to back-ups in meaningless series like this current WI one. Also, with no T20 WC in sight, hope we rest all our key players for international T20s.

well advance it a bit, and finish early give a couple of weeks of recovery, manage work load ( have BCCI instructions to centrally contracted players and those franchise to consider their workload hopefully as even clubs can be a bit committed to the country).

side benefit is clashing more with pak league and make them bankrupt.

They already did that that is why they are starting on March 27th I believe.

Only ICC window available in Apr-May. So its not possible to organize IPL in any other time.

Others play during that season so they can't move it.

Why should we care ?? that's not our problem tbh, its a domestic league and we can shift the timing, Bcci should act smart here and put our interest first.

Other teams are touring or playing against each other so league without them won't be possible.

It is possible, don't know of others but west indies players will be available for sure and others should adjust if they don't wanna misssout, it will be absolutely ridiculous if we loose bumrah or bhuvi through injury right before world cup.
