One of the top 3 have to move in middle order to make way for Rahul

The middle order conundrum has reached its peak. Every other option we are trying does not seem to be the answer.

KL Rahul was the highest scorer in the last game he played as an opener and was dropped after that.

So there is one player who has the potential to be a good player for you but by management or himself he is typecasted as a top order player.

So to accommodate him

1 Virat moves to number 4 , KLR comes in at 3 -> Best solution

2. Rohit moves to number 4-5, KLR comes in as opener -> Risky but worth trying since Rohit has bee playing in the middle order for MI.

One of the Rohit or Virat have sacrifice for the team's cause.

That's fine but kurbani dega kaun. Do you think Kohli-Rohit could end up like this? :phehe:

On a serious note, only Kohli can do it. Dhawan has batted in the top 3 all his life and Rohit is hopeless in the middle order. For Kohli the "adjustment" is easier from 3 to 4 but I don't think that's gonna happen. A compromise solution would be to have a flexible 3 and 4 where Rahul goes in at 3 if an early wicket falls and Kohli comes in at 3 if the openers have already got us a good start. This would ensure that the best batsman still gets to bat long enough.

He needs to be played first.

He was backed sufficiently in Tests. In fact is among the select players to play 20 or more tests in the last two yrs. Has played two full series vs Eng and WI but with nothing much to show except that inning of 149

There is not enough evidence to suggest his form could be different in other formats

However, he can be tried till at #4 till the NZ ODI series esp if he does well in tests in Aus to show that his form can be leveraged upon :dontknow:
