People are just overrating him. He is good but that's it. He will have to work really hard if he has to become permanent in all formats for india.

There were people telling drop Rohit to play Rahul as opener in LOIs and few even said kohli should bat at 4 for Rahul. Rahul should first focus on Aus test series if he fails there he should never get chance again in tests.

Rohit took a hell lot of time to settle down and was successful only in the opening slot. Rahul seems to be similar, has struggled in middle order while opening slot isn't available.

He should make place at #4 in odis but first target should be save spot in test cricket. He has no chance to replace openers in odis till 2023.

But obviously he made for it. Rahul has gotten alot chances in test cricket and back to back chances and still is inconsistent there. He will get his chance in odis too but not in top 3 when they are doing such great job.

I thought he played just one match in Asia Cup and scored a quick 70 ?

I agree he looks low on confidence , but has done nothing wrong yet in shorter formats

Very good chance for Rahul in the series to make spot for ODIs in Aus. Not too hard chase today so should be easy for him to do it but he needs to finish all 3 games in the series.

I think it was 66 .... Rayudu looked better than him iirc so KL did not pass the litmus test

Rayudu just stayed longer iirc , don't look better . There is no test , he's just fixed as a backup opener . Even if had scored a 200 he would be dropped the next match

Won't happen . He will just be in the squad , will not play ahead of other two openers . At this point his only chance is if Dhawan goes through a bad run , which I hope not cos he's our only reliable opener against good attacks .

The Eng test conditions were tough as hell, 95 out of 100 openers would have struggled. Not an apt series to completely judge an opener.

Was easy chance for him to finish the match and make side in odis but again he is not making most of chances he gets.
