Will VK ever have a fanatical fanbase like SRT, MSD and Dada?

Recommended Posts

Despite over achieving so much in his career, vk doesn't exactly have a god-like status in the Indian cricket fanbase. They love him to bits just they loved "demi-gods with faults" like sehwag and yuvraj, maybe a lot more than that.

But it wouldnt be wrong to say that vk isn't exactly deity-fied the way SRT, MSD and Dada have been in the past during the prime of their respective careers.

1. Do you think vk will ever reach that God status?

2. What's preventing Virat from reaching that stature in the eyes of Indian fans? Has the Indian society progressed from idolising celebrities or do Indians still expect their heroes to be humble which isn't exactly vk's cup of tea..

Sachin, Dada etc were contrasting personalities however they never came across as fake. What you saw is what you got.

MSD too but he overdoes to protect his image

Vk comes across as fake with the whole wishing and praising Pakistanis at every oppurtune moment, inviting Srilankan fans to weddings etc etc. tries too hard to become a brand.

So Indian fans are awestruck with vk but the connect/bonding is very weak then?

I don't think there is similar respect among fans for Sachin and Dhoni at the present. They lost their credibility when they used Indian Cricket for their own personal gains, like Sachin lobbying for Shastri to become Indian coach.

Kohli is much more greater cricketer than these two players and we still criticize him. So it's more to do with the change in mindset among fans and no player is above the game.

yes by the time he comes to end of his career he will. Coz we value things when its not their or we are about to loose them

Emotion for MSD has grown in last few yrs coz they knw he wnt be around for long. Same was with ganguly. During their captaincy phases for a long time ppl wanted their throats .  So by the time he comes to end of his career will value him more

God like status - i doubt coz i think this generation is a lot more smart , so u wnt see such status given to anyone be it cricket or bollywood . Also stars are more accesible due to social media, so the mystery aura around them is no more which is still in favour of Dhoni so ppl are always curious.

yes, in 90s when tendulkar came he basically gave whole nation the belief that we are as good as anyone in world and the sheer dependance on him gave him a god like status.

N yes we do value those humble , nice buy kind of characters.....but all that fiery, arrogant image can be whitewashed in few yrs by kohli

And that emotion is turning into loose motion every time he plays as it just keeps

going on and on and on.

Virat is 30. Will play for only 6-7 years max, should we start becoming sentimental for him too if he starts failing?

my point is not about his doing well or bad

its that how his fan base has grown more sentimental in last few yrs coz they knw he wnt be their for long

The same dhoni was like politicion , a career killer of many like yuvraj, bhajji, gambhir for public .....has now become a victim in their eyes

Same happ with ganguly to ......he n dalmiya were being bashed left right centre in last phase of ganguly captaincy, once chappel came n even during dhoni was phase......became a victim

So will happen with virat .......will be hated while he is captain

In the last leg of his career, when ppl knw he wnt be their for long....he wud be cherished more in that time to what he may not even deserve

Let rohit be captain, withing few yrs jo gaaliyan khayega...........but near retirement he ll become an emotion

thats how emotion works beyond logic

take yuvraj n irfan example, where did u see logic in their fans

Whenever a Wc comes, so many wanted yuvraj again n agian

Till pandya burst on scene, all wanted pathan pathan

unko bhi huggte hue  zamanaa ho gaya tha

yes same will happen with virat to

M not talking about as a sample size, m talking about a huge size of population for whom emotions are so strong that logic doesnt exists

As a player you believe that he has a fan following equal to peak SRT and MSD?

Maybe not sachin but certainly on par with msd. You always had fans who questioned MSDs test or even t20 performance but everyone loves virat the player across format.
