13 ODIs to WC

This team doesn’t look like it will even reach semi finals. All this IPL nautanki and not one set of 11 players who can seriously challenge for World Cup. And we don’t even know who those 11 players will be.

recently having watched 4 teams namely Aus, SA, NZ and Pak, i can safely say Ind are not in a very bad position. One of the major problems is Dhoni, who is disturbing the balance of the XI as he is a liability as a batsman these days.

Pandya coming back will be beneficial. However, Jadeja returning to the squad is a big worry.

All depends on whether the top 3, Bumrah, Kuldeep and Chahal can carry on their form in the last stages of the tournament.

 

Team is more or less identified, if all are fit and available.

 

Batsmen: Kohli, Rohit, Dhawan, Rayudu, Manish Pandey,

Keeper: Dhoni

Allrounder: Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya

Spinners: Kuldeep, Chahal

Pacers: Bhuvi, Bumrah, Khaleel, Shami/Umesh

 

That's 14 players. 15th member could be one of Rahul/DK/Pant/Jadeja

rahul is ahead of pandeyji in ODIs ..  TM will surely pick rahul over pandey

I really want to know what I am missing in Pandey for last 6 years. And Dhoni ?

Exactly. One change though.

DK or Pant will come in place of Manish Pandey as the fifth batsman / back up keeper.

 

15th spot could be Rahul or Jadeja

Dhoni should have retired in 2014 and not played even 2015 WC. Here we are 6 months away from another WC and he's been made immovable by a team management and bunch of selectors which is in awe of him (or his business partners ) ably aided by the media which  has no shame in publishing puff pieces like this

In CT, they didn't play against Aus, Eng and NZ. This time it will be different and the other sides will field much better teams.

because they were out already which means they are not good a teams.  if they were, at least one of them should have reached SF or final. Aus could be excused as they got poor weather.

Given that the other ODI teams are pretty crap, we will fall ass backward into semi-finals.  But that should not be considered an achievement when there are hardly 3 decent ODI teams in cricket.

We lost to a 7th ranked team in the finals. There was no certainty we would've won against those teams.

To reach the WC semis, a team will need to win at least 6 out of the 9 matches they play. We should beat Afghanistan, WI, SL, Pak and Aus (if Smith and Warner are not there). Will need to win one of the matches vs Eng, SA and NZ which looks doable. Only way we will not go to semis if two of the top three totally lose their form. Can't see that happening.

Neither SL/Pakistan wins are set in stone given how woeful our middle order is.

Team is set pretty much barring injury. Big question in Krunal. If we can give him a 10 ODI run, we have have a true spin allrounder option to replace Jadeja and possibly Chahal
