Moody to coach Mohali team Amid widespread speculation about which Aussie would coach which team in the IPL the first official announcement came from the PCA. Yuvraj Singh will lead his team, reports Ashutosh Sharma. More... Ashutosh Sharma, Hindustan Times Mohali, February 17, 2008 First Published: 23:04 IST(17/2/2008) Last Updated: 23:06 IST(17/2/2008) IT'S OFFICIAL. Tom Moody will coach the Mohali chapter of the Indian Premier League. Amid widespread speculation about which Aussie would coach which team in the IPL the first official announcement came from the Punjab Cricket Association stadium. Yuvraj Singh, the icon player from the area, will lead his team. "We are pleased to choose Mohali as our centre ahead of all the other choices we had, as it's is the best association and with excellent facilities. With Yuvraj being our captain and Moody as coach, I think everything has fallen into place for us," said Ness Wadia, a co-owner of the team along with Priety Zinta. Wadia said their motive behind buying the team was to promote cricket at the domestic level. Preity, however, conceded that they don't have any experience of handling cricket but said they will seek help from technical people to run the team. "We really don't know much about the game and its technicalities. But we would take professional help to ru1n the franchise in most efficient manner. We would take inputs from captain, coach and other technical members that we would hire," said Zinta. Wadia said that Cricket is the core content and everything else that is now a part of the T20 match will be woven around it. While it was impossible for any of the franchise officials to divulge any further details of their team's composition, Punjab Cricket Association president I.S. Bindra said, " Minimum of four players from the area have to be taken. As Yuvraj is already in the team there are only three more spots left, which will be filled by either national, international, Ranji or u-22 players." Bindra also said that a Ranji player would be given a minimum of $50,000 contract while an under-22 player would be offered a minimum of $20,000. The franchise did not believe that Yuvraj's recent poor form was of slightest concern. "No human being can give 100% every day. He is a great player and is going through a rough patch. It happens with everyone be it a banker, player or an actor. We are not at all concerned about his form. He is a fighter and just like a true Punjabi he will rediscover his form," Zinta said.

IPL can help India, Aus players forget recent bitterness Australia's Tom Moody feels playing under one banner as a team in the IPL would help the Indian and Australian cricketers forget their bitter memories of past and bring them together. More... Press Trust Of India Melbourne, February 20, 2008 First Published: 16:30 IST(20/2/2008) Last Updated: 16:31 IST(20/2/2008) Australia's Tom Moody feels playing under one banner as a team in the Indian Premier League would help the Indian and Australian cricketers forget their bitter memories of past and bring them together. "When you are playing in opposing sides in any sport things can get heated, and cricket is no different. But when players get together in a team, cricket tends to take control of all egos and all past discrepancies," said Moody, the coach of Preity Zinta's Mohali team in the Twenty20 tournament. "That is an exciting prospect for cricket - and it is amazing how the game brings people together," Moody said. His compatriot and former Australian coach John Buchanan, who is set to associate himself with the Kolkata franchise, was also excited at an opportunity to blend different cultures into one team. "What will be interesting is that you will have Australian players, Indian players, New Zealand players, Sri Lankan players, Pakistani players ... And they could all end up in the one franchise. "That will make for an interesting cultural exchange no doubt ... And that will be one of the exciting parts, bringing together cultural differences in a very short period of time," Buchanan was quoted as saying by 'The Australian'. Buchanan urged the International Cricket Council to manage the scheduling of the T20 league in such a way that it does not affect Test cricket. "It has the potential to revolutionise the game, at least in the way of delivery and to take it globally. "I think that (the scheduling window) is what will happen in the next 12 months, and it does have the potential to be damaging either way if it is not worked out properly," Buchanan said.

VRV, Goel, Kaul join Mohali Gopal Sharma Tribune News Service Chandigarh, February 24 VRV Singh has been rewarded for his persistence with the ball as the pace bowler has been signed for the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament to be played in April. The Punjab pace spearhead has joined the Mohali team co-owned, among others, by Ness Wadia and Bollywood actress Preity Zinta. M P Pandove, hony secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association, said today that along with V R V Singh, Uday Kaul and Karan Goel, key members of the Punjab Ranji Trophy team, have also joined the Mohali team. With Brett Lee and S Sreesanth, the other fast bowlers already in the team, the joining of VRV Singh will make the Mohali pace attack among the most formidable attacks in the eight-team competition. V R V Singh bowling in tandem with world’s fastest bowler Lee would surely be an enriching experience for the 23-year-old bowler. Besides, bowling along with tearaway Lee and Sreesanth will also be motivation enough for him to give off his best for the team. Ever since he returned from injury at the start of the Ranji Trophy this season, V R V Singh has been in irresistible form. Earlier this week, he bowled North Zone to title victory in the Duleep Trophy final with a 10-wicket haul in Mumbai. In the Ranji Trophy this season, V R V Singh had a couple of impressive outings. He bagged 15 wickets in four Ranji Trophy games. VRV Singh was earlier included in the Indian Test squad in Australia before the current one-day matches when an injured Zaheer Khan was ruled out of the last two Tests in the four-Test series. Though, V R V Singh failed to break into the playing eleven, his selection proved that the Punjab fast bowler was in the reckoning for selection to play the game at the highest level. Young Uday Kaul has distinguished himself as a competent wicketkeeper batsman. With a couple of impressive knocks under his belt this season, Kaul is among the most promising prospects to emerge from the state. The 21-year-old Karan Goel was the leading scorer in the inaugural domestic Twenty20 Championship last season playing a major role with his hard-hitting prowess with the bat and part-time off-spin.

Christening the franchises have been so effortless and less thought of. Gawd, a league worth of close to $800 million, yet they managed to fail with naming the franchises. Atleast make a good damn website for IPL
