Ranvir
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-46300459 What is it with these missionaries? All they end up doing is causing more trouble than good and they often trick the people into converting. Muloghonto
Just now, Clarke said: Why did gormint lift the restrictions on the islands without any proper measures ? they didn't. Its not like we have 3 warship patrol the waters 24/7. He bribed local fishermen to take him and apparently there are 7 people apprehended by the govt. awaiting charges. Global.Baba
Fishermen shouldn’t be given serious punishments . Give them a wrap on the wrist and let them go. UrmiSinhaRay and ravishingravi 1

Moochad
This can sound horrible, but I don't feel any sympathy for this rascal. With uncontacted/isolated tribes, many of them lack the immunities to diseases other people carry. If he spread that disease to this tribe, they could have gone extinct! IIRC there was another tribe like this whose numbers fell from 9000 to under 1000 when they were contacted by a missionary and had a new disease introduced to them. The fishermen who ferryed him to the island in this restricted area should be arrested promptly. beetle, velu, UrmiSinhaRay and 3 others 1 1
diga
^More than 60% fisherman on India's coastline already follow Christianity... don't you think they may follow a Padre's diktat without the help of any other inducements? A poor fisherman earns what 100-200 rs a day? while the fully funded missionary is loaded with $$$. You are telling me they should resist temptation in violating rules like no trespassing etc. ? I don’t think they even view it as such a big deal . They probably see it as a crazy rich white adrenaline junkie (translate to a “instagram missionary adventurer”) looking for some fun. Fk the ethics etc that sorrounds this. Obviously an American citizen add to that a Christian missionary getting killed will have some repurcussions. Obviously there will be a global outrage if the Sentinel tribe is touched so naturally the fisherman will be the scapegoats here. The bigger repercussion should be regulation or even better total ban on missionary work. That should be the takeaway, not big punishments for some easy targets like poor fishermen. Sorry but this is a justification for taking bribes to break laws that have potentially deadly consequences for an entire tribe. They don't view it is as a big deal does not mean it is NOT a big deal - it is a huge deal to risk deadly contamination of this tribe. If we want ministers to go to jail for scamming crores of rupees, these guys should go to jail as well - atleast in the ministers cases, they are not risking killing an entire group of people by their actions. These fishermen are. 36 minutes ago, Global.Baba said: Fk the ethics etc that sorrounds this. That should be the takeaway, not big punishments for some easy targets like poor fishermen. this is not about missionary-ism. This is about violating a quarantine ban for people who have been untouched by virtually all modern disease to such a degree that their immune systems are at AIDS patient immuno-compromised levels for stuff like common cold, flu, chicken pox, etc. that can kill them. I dont care if a missionary goes there or just an adventure tourist, violating quarantine of N.Sentinel island = risking their deaths. Which is pretty serious. And that should be deterred accoringly by several years in jail sentence. UrmiSinhaRay and Yoda-esque
beetle
Why the hell is the govt trying to retrieve the body of this as****** who has no respect for our laws? Why put the tribals at risk of disease and the police / people trying to retrieve the body at the risk of the tribals arrows? This piece of crap is not worth it. Well, I see nothing wrong in attempting to rescue a body so that missionary's family can find some peace too. This is a no win situation as soon as missionary decided to go on path of Jesus UrmiSinhaRay
