Curbing expectations from Rahul, Pant and the ilk

These guys are no second coming of any great cricketers. In our imaginary world, we expect some of these youngsters are going to win Ind the world cup.  Surely they should get chances but no free rides. It's time to respect the likes of Rayudu, DK who are performing and still coping it. Ind need performers,no pretenders.

P.S. : Fk Dhoni , sack him from LOIs, if @Laaloo questions the Genesis of the thread :giggle:

I m not sure about pant ....but surely Rahul is an exceptional talent, but right now, he is completely out of form

I don't think it is a fair comparison TBH.

Rahul is 26, Pant(and Shaw who is next in line) aren't even 22 yet!

Rahul is much closer to being a finished product then the two youngsters. Rahul is only called a youngster because he is inexperienced. He can improve if he gets a long run and is restricted from playing all 3 formats until he is settled, but we have possibly seen what his potential is

Pant and Shaw have many years more they can develop. Even thier bodies can still fill out more.

Expectations for all 3 should be tempered, but Rahul isn't comparable to the other two

Rahul has some glaring weaknesses. Gill has a much tighter technique and has a solid temperament. He will soon run Rahul into ground. IT all can change. Rahul working hard secretly to iron out his technique, Gill slacking off. But judging by the current standard i think Gill's learning curve won't be as steep as Rahul's.

After sandpaper scandal was exposed Starc's performance. I am not even sure Starc is the same after that.

2 tests avge 44.25 Strike rate 92

3 ODIs avge 38.75 Strike rate 42 ER 5.53

1 ODI avge 26.00 Strike rate 24 ER 6.50

Pant has talent and aggression to succeed but still need guidance ....his continues to play silly shots at crucial junctures not only in these T20s (which don't matter much) but also in Test specially in last test in Eng when he could well have created history with some sensible stroke play. His keeping still needs to improve but overall if he settles down in next year or so he will be great asset to Indian team in all formats.

He may or may not succeed, but let's be honest he got the opportunities this year and he performed consistently. If he fails, questions will be asked again.

Do you realise both are 33-34 year old? You are comparing them with Pant who has been in international cricket for 4 months. Rahul will also turn around his form.
