Accuracy is primary skill that Indian bowlers need to work on

Recommended Posts

No point running in and hitting 140 when you got at 5 rpo in 4 day game.

Whether you are fast or medium fast or medium bowler, it's the accuracy which matters most.

Traditionally trundlers are considered to be accurate and fast bowlers bit wayward, but I don't think there is any relation. I have seen trundlers spraying ball at leg and pitching it short only to get smashed. Similarly fast bowlers don't become accurate by losing pace. If they are wayward while bowling at their natural pace, then they will remain so even at reduced pace.

Everyone has their natural pace which they can work on to increase it gradually. However if they can't bowl line and length at that pace then losing pace is unlikely to help. Similary if a trundler suddenly tries to gain pace then he is going to lose direction.

Now when we have bigger pool of fast bowlers it's time to discard fast spray guns and look towards potential fast line and lengths bowlers. Expectations have to change and we can't remain satisfied with just pace. It worked 10 years back, but not any longer.

Selectors should look towards youngers bowlers who can control it too.

We need to move towards pacers who combine accuracy with pace and bounce ...like Bumrah.

Pace without accuracy ...  you release pressure and get hit.

Accuracy at medium pace without bounce ... you are unlikely to be an all condition pacer. You look innocuous half the time.

Agreed. However, it would be nice if we can uncover an Abbas-like medium-pace bowler (atleast for SC pitches).

Let Abbas play for 2 to 3 years and then decide how he is.

true, but I expect that it will probably end up like phil-trundler. record will become less impressive compared to now, but still pretty good (esp in helpful or familiar conditions). reminds me too much of asif (who was a git otherwise) but a very thinking bowler.

Asif was not Philander or Abbas type bowler. He was tall and could seam the ball which works almost even with very little help from conditions.

Aussie pitches assist tallish to tall bowlers more than shorter bowlers as they get more bounce because batsmen who tend to cut or drive the deliveries end up playing it in air giving opportunity of picking wickets provided you hit right line and lengths

Being SC bowlers ,our bowlers take time to adjust to th lengths needed in this part of world

Umesh any how wont learn a bit even if he spends his rest of life in Auss

Shami is a slow starter by the team he gets used to the conditions series will be over with us losing yet again

Selectors missed a trick by not picking bowlers like Rajpoot, Siraj

Umesh is an utter waste ,cant believe he is picked yet again

Why the he'll is Siraj not in contention for getting into Indian 11.

Are bhuvi umesh and ishant better than Siraj..

Shammi bumrah..I can agree but Siraj is better than first 3

Wrong! We need phassht boilers. Till date we haven't had a bowler who delivers the ball at such speed that it results in sonic boom. That should be the immediate priority. Besides the pace, the sound would be pretty distracting for the batsman.

The long term search should be concentrated on bowlers who can consistently bowl at a pace where the friction of the air causes the ball to sort of self-ignite, like it happens with extra-terrestrial objects enter the Earth's atmosphere.

These type of phassht boilers wouldn't need accuracy as a prerequisite. Heck, we won't need wicket keepers or slips or catchers either. Just a lot of ear plugs, balls, stumps, safety gear etc.

@rkt.india @express bowling @Rightarmfast have all been trying to unearth such bowlers on the gali & nukkad circuit without much success.

Nah, as one of the rare trundler Bhuvi fans on the forum, I respect the passion of some pace bowling fans on the forum as listed, especially given our cricketing history.

Because team values experience too much (Bhuvi) and focus has been on fast bowling only (Yadav).

It's time to send clear message to bowlers that they have to work on their line and length too and being fast isn't going to be enough.

Well the thing is, if the team needed Siraj, he should have been blooded for the Aussie tour. He wasnt! I dont think Australia is a tour any captain would take a chance with a new fast bowler.

giving value to experience is not Bad but bhuvi is only a good bowler on swing friendly tracks..not sure he is ideal for any track in australia, I think here ball does not swing at all.

Umesh is no more a genuine fast bowler, he has been regularly bowling slower than SHAMMI and BUMRAH but still he is considered a Fast bowler where as he is definitely slower than shammi and bumrah on average in any spell.

umesh's usp is now no more and siraj is faster than umesh now for sure.

Umesh recently got 10 wickets in a test ..apart from that he has never performed very well in tests.

even ishant is bowling better than Umesh nowadays.

even in this practice game shammi has outbowled ishant and umesh.

My only regret is Siraj deserved to be in australia for tests so that he could be in contention of geting into 11.

Aaron, Pankaj Singh and Shardul Thakur. Only 3 bowlers who have been tested in last 5 years (55 tests). This list should have been longer and included at least 4-5 bowlers more.

Attitude of current team management has been quite poor towards young bowlers and when you have such large pool of bowlers who can tested, not giving them chance is absolute waste of resources.

None of the bowlers are being drafted directly or given enough opportunities. Bumrah proved himself in ODIs and made his way to the team. Apart from them everyone has been around for long time even in test arena.

If management doesn't start searching for better bowlers right now, it will miss a golden period of transition and this short sightedness will stall progress of Indian team by another decade.
