Questions before the 1st test at Adelaide

The first Test is scheduled to start on Dec 5th/6th (depending up on where you are) at Adelaide. It appears as if there are a few question marks for Team India as mentioned below:

  • In conditions that does not assist spin, is the bowling good enough to pick up 20 wkts relatively cheaply?
  • Should Ind play 4 or 5 specialist bowlers? The answer to this question is important given Ind's pattern of losing the first test in SENA and considering the potency (or lack of in these conditions) of the bowling attack. How much value does the bowling of Ashwin, Jadeja and Bhuvi offer in such conditions?
  • Would an extra batsman such as Vihari, who has shown good form, offer more value than the 5th specialist bowler?
  • With Shaw out of the 1st test (if not the series), who should open? Should Vijay comeback? Should the opener Rahane open? Would Rohit be accommodated?
  • Is this going to be another series where we would be caught off guard? Which OZ players would turn in to heros?

My view:Ball will spin in Adelaide. Play two spinners. If possible, Kuldeep. If we do not have faith in batting then jadeja ashwin.

Gamble with rohit at the top.give kl rahul another chance. Happy to take other suggestions like Vijay, rahul/ dhawan rahul/ Mayank rahul etc etc. Depending on situation, switch between rahane and pujara at 3. Another option is pujara to open and stack middle order with rohit. Rohit to attack from ball 1 before second new ball.

The three pacers must bowl a tight off stump line with short ball as surprise only. And pray ashwin do not spray at legside.

And win the toss bat big, make them chase something, even 250 in 4th inning. Anything less than that won't do in Adilaede.

There is a famous saying, " truths in life: death, taxes , and runs at Adilaede Oval". Bat 1st and make the match your own.

would prefer 5 bowlers since Oz pitches are not easy to take wkts on. Having a 5th bowler is vital. I think Pant has his share of failings, but he can bat at 6. Would have a couple of allrounders after him. Although it's not going to actually happen, my team would be: Pujara, Vijay/KLR, Vihari, Kohli, Rahane, Pant, Jaddu, Ash/Bhuvi, Shami, Bumrah, Ishant. Batting till 8, and with 5 genuine bowling options + 1 part-timer. Not gonna happen though.

“We won’t do anything differently,” Hough told The Weekend Australian. “The preparation will be the same. The only difference is we get the covers off earlier and we start earlier. We do the same preparation for red-ball cricket and pink-ball cricket at Shield level. The best way to get an even contest is to leave some grass on there and get that balance between bat and ball. Right now, we really feel that this is where it’s at for the pitch.”
