Straight Drive
Can't fault him today. Wrecked the Aussies batting order claiming 3 out of 4 wickets, that too in Adelaide. Actually a spinner was expected to play support role to pacers in Australia, but he did it vice versa by leading the wickets column and pacers supporting him in first 40 overs. velu 1 Link to comment
The Dark Horse
Great spin bowling. If he continues in the same vein there's no stopping him. velu 1 Link to comment

Also what people didn't read in that stat is his record against left-handers. The Australian top 6 has 4 left-handers. The Dark Horse and velu 2 Link to comment

My point is you need to look further into the stats when you pick them out. A batting line-up that is heavy on left-handers is clearly at a disadvantage against Ashwin compared to Australian teams that he's played against (and had a poor record against) in the past. I did mention in the match thread OP that Ash is pretty good against lefties even in SENA, mainly bowling from around the wicket. He really struggles against the righties in SENA when he has to bowl over the wicket and outside the off stump. With so many lefties in Aus top 6, Ash was the right pick, at least for the first test. 46 minutes ago, rkt.india said: its for most off spinners. they do struggle against righties until you make use of rough which Ashwin struggle with. True but in Ash's case the difference is vast, much more than other off spinners. Edited December 7, 2018 by philcric Link to comment
