sandeep
Aint winning anything major away from home if the Openers can't get the team to a decent start. Period. Bowling is yards better than it used to be. Its the openers that let us down in SA and England. Off to a horror show of a start here. But early days. Not to be too harsh on Vijay, but he is a shadow of what he was, his prime was during the previous tour of Oz. It was a mistake to go back to him. Prithvi's freak injury forced him back, but still. KL needs to figure his **** out. ASAP. We are committed to him for this tour, for better or worse. Vijay has 3 innings to save his career. Hard for most batsmen to bat well in that type of scenario, especially one past his prime. velu, Stradlater, Mosher and 2 others 1 4 Link to comment

Pollack
A good pair of openers is very important in test matches. K L Rahul is failing badly. Vijay is too good for domestic or county but not the same old self as far as internationals. Thankfully we atleast have one opener in Shaw who looks very promising. Need to find another one. beetle, UrmiSinhaRay and .Selfish Sachin 1 1 1 Link to comment

rtmohanlal
Still feel Vijay can put up a descent show in this series as a whole. This is because he has such a great record in AUS. Needs to be patient with him . Any way if he proves to be mediocre in first 2 tests, he would mostly be dropped. But Rahul... just can't see him succesful, Neither have the technique nor have the temperament. His only worth is the talent to play a few shots. That's all. UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment
ShoonyaSifar
We have had ONE 100+ opening partnership in last 10 years in SENA. Does not look like getting better anytime soon. velu and UrmiSinhaRay 1 1 Link to comment

The problem that started as technical issue has doubled up in his head and now its a mental problem this can go long UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment
Khota
Rahul needs to sit out. Vijay I really don't know. Since Dhawan is not there open with Rohit and Rahane. UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment
goose
The criteria for opening bat selection in SENA should be how many balls can you face before getting out, not averages, not strike rates, or any of that, just how many balls. Who are the best blockers in the country? Straight Drive and UrmiSinhaRay 1 1 Link to comment

Frustrated
Rahul 's knock of 149 against england in the dead rubber did more damage than anything else. That knock was a recipe for disaster and ensured his prolonged inclusion as opener for the next 10 tests atleast. UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment

Forget playing as many balls as Akash did. Balls faced by Akash Chopra in 2003 Test 1 at Brisbane - 135 & 7 Test 2 at Adelaide - 44 & 54 Test 3 at Melbourne - 138 & 3 Test 4 at Sydney - 139 & 14 Edited December 6, 2018 by Straight Drive UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment

Vilander
Vijay till the last two balls of his innings tried to play defensively and survived pretty comfortably for what ever 20 odd deliveries and then that risky 4 - next ball instead of leaving it or defending playing the line he ended up driving without foot work - he is mixed up in his head. It could have been easily him on the other end grinding like Pujara he has the game its frustrating. Then Rohit when the pitch and the ball had died down when he was clearly dominating the proceedings got out to that shot..again frustrating. They are not in test mode, i think they need to take test series seriously and play 3 warm up games else no need of tests series..its useless. Even kohli was in ODI mode. At least Shaw will take one of the places - even if he fails, it will be a worthwhile learning experience. as for opener no. 2, how about elevating chepu there? One can squeeze in vihari in the middle order. I also think either rahane/Rohit should be dropped and Ind should go to a 5 bowler attack on most (but not all) pitches. the way some of them batted today, I'd bet jaddu would score more than them.
