There are plenty of other threads which discuss why he is not batting but I remember he had some  some ability with the ball atleast better than Vijay.

If our Legends like Sachin,Dada,Sehwag etc could take it upon themselves to roll their arm for the team's cause then why can't this guy do his bit

After his back injury he had stopped bowling
