Kohli's captaincy watch thread

Debatable

Not giving Shami new ball on day 1.

Ashwin bowling short in 2nd innings in search for magic deliveries. This has been his problem for long time. Whenever there is some help overseas and expectations are high from him to lead the attack, he starts looking for magic balls instead of bowling nice regular offies. This is where captain and team management should step in.

We might berate him as much as we want and rightly so but on field he does make things happen with his intensity ,hardly you'll see us lose the grip over the opposition team on field and lose the plot like it used to be under msd.

Now teams struggle to reach even 350 against us

Teams are struggling despite having Kohli as captain? This is probably best bowling line up which will cover Kohli's captaincy cracks.

Because Kohli is backing them to do well. He is the fast bowling captain just like Dhoni was spinner’s captain.

One day captain one can question, but tell you what, Kohli is the perfect Test match leader who pushes each and every player in the team to do well and put price on their performance. No other player in Indian team currently can do that(they can hardly hold on their spot in the team forget about handing them the captaincy). Even Rahane just said the other day that thing that Kohli’s tackling of situations and his reactions is what is helping his game too. It is rubbing on the team. We are 2nd best bowling attack in last 3 years in terms of bowling average below South African bowling attack.

He has managed them perfectly in test.

Maybe but rkt thinks this is not the best bowling line up,its just the extreme conditions that makes them good ?

Ashwin should be given a leg slip too. Virat needs to tell his pacers to go for bouncers. Put a field based on that. Else this one sided match may turn out to be a very competitive one .

Hate to say but we lost the plot while batting. Do not want good work of Chepu Rahane wasted

Captain of the world’s #1 test side for last 25 months can’t be that bad. He has his obvious shortcomings and isn’t the greatest tactician but does enough as captain and leads from the front. Needs an away series win to be called a great captain.

Forget everything else, the way our pacers have come up in last 2-3 years, Kohli the captain deserves a lot of credit for that. Yes, there are issues of sticking to the tried and tested experienced payers and not prefer youngsters in form, but that doesn’t make him the worst captain.

So what has my statement to do with this being best bowling line? Conditions in SA and England were extreme that is true. This is the best bowling line up is arguable because we lost both those series badly. If would have inarguably been the best bowling lineup if we had won even one of those series.  It could still be called the best if they won us this series.

Are you kidding me, the same bowling attack minus Bumrah have been playing for so long.

They look more potent due to Kohli’s captaincy and his backing of their abilities.

Captaincy has been pretty appaling. #11 batting and just two slips. Aussies of old time would have had an umbrella field immediately.

You are talking about arguable the greatest team in the world. Also, those umbrella fields used to be in place when teams had 100-200 runs to play with. Don't remember that Aussie team ever being under the pressure of defending only 300+ runs in 4th innings away from home.

Modern day philosophies have also evolved to be a mix of in-out fields.
