goose
when are they going to bin this rule. it's nonsense. it seems every marginal catch gets the out soft signal nowadays. how can the ump possibly know if a fielder got his little solitary pinky under a ball or whether it bounced onto the finger? I do get that previously clean catches suffered from the failings of camera work but if you're going to ask an umpire to make a call you might as well give that task to the 3rd umpire who can study ten different angles. criticise the decision but what's the solution? maybe there should be 3 on field soft options - think it was out, think not out, and I really have no idea? rtmohanlal
Absolutely rubbish... that is what can be said about this....Once the umpire rules it as 'out' , it can't be over ruled despite the technology showing that it is a howler!!!! this is unbelievable. Link to comment
The Dark Horse
This soft signal is BS..at least for catches. Link to comment
goose
does the on field umpire genuinely have an angle, literally or otherwise, that the 3rd umpire does not. the nature of the fielding side's celebrations maybe? anything else? if he does not then he has no business giving a soft signal. ITs the whole notion of enshrining and respecting the on-field's umpire's authority - the review is "supposed" to be only to correct obvious mistakes. The guiding principle isn't to get the decision right - which is why this stupidity of soft signal exists. Its obvious that such decisions should be left to the judgement of the TV umpire without this soft signal business just like runout and stumpings. Its a vestigal tailbone and needs to be discarded. But the ICC has never, ever been a pro-active organization in such matters, or any matters. They will do so at some point few years down the road, not anytime soon. Link to comment
