We need a bizarre opening partnership to shake things up a bit.

if ur thinking i called ur ashwin suggestion bizzare, nope

i was pointing out rahane n rohit suggestion someone gave .....

ashwin option is intersting  but he has become loose in recent times to be an opener , so might try in Sydney rather then melbourne

Mayank will be badly exposed in Australia. I don't rate him at all for internationals. He has earned his spot though and it would be unfair to expose him in Australia against Starc, Hazzlewood and co.

Pujara and Rahul should open. Pujara will look through the new ball. Rahul will do his own thing for good or worse.

Mayank has his technical issue, im not sure if he wud be exposed in Australia but sooner or later he wud be ....sometimes opp dnt figure u out immediately

Even i dnt rate him highly but he deserves a chance now, also his mindspace n confidence wud be better then Rahul . Plus Their wud be a huge backlash if he comes back benched

we need to be realistic from a team point of view. For instance Mayank may succeed , but the chances of that happening is very low. A rookie  who is new to every thing related with AUS , going there and succeeding straight away  at test level , that too as an opener against a dreaded bowling attack... difficult to imagine.  That's why Pujara who  has such experience as a player,  in AUS, and virtually as opener in AUS is the best bet to succeed.

Pant had adopted a slog-only approach in the first test, which I did not like.

But, looking at how assured he looked today against Starc and Lyon  ...   and he looked to build an innings  and had more time to play the quicks than Vihari ...  Pant can bat at 6.

And Parthiv can open just as a specialist batsman along with Mayank.

This will be a more conventional approach.

If you open with Pujara, the #3 slots becomes vulnerable. And then you play someone at #3, so you are in fact unsettling two positions

If I have to shuffle the line up, I would open with Rahane as he is also a top order batsman. He can swing around till he gets out and also not face much of Lyon

Of the squad of 18: 3 are injured or not 100% fit fit (Ashwin, Rohit and Shaw); 3 have failed miserably (KL, Vijay and Umesh); and 3 are going to be passengers (Jadeja, Bhuvi and Parthiv). That leaves 9 members + Agarwal and Pandya

But thats how he has come up the ranks n we always go back to what worked for us

He will only learn with failure and thats why he needs to play

Pappu is no upgrade over him in anyway

See a player learns only by playing

M ok with that as long as he doesnt wear gloves, pant may even drop more but atleast he ll learn

Parthiv hasnt learned n his poor technique in keeping cnt be changed much at this age

No ...  He was not a slogger at FC level.  Just a free stroking batsman.

Allowing youngsters to learn is not even a remote consideration in last 2 tests in Australia.

We have to just choose the best team combination to win these tests. Pant stays because he figures in this best combination.

I want Mayank to open with either of Ashwin, Pant or Pandya.

Anyway we are getting below 10 runs from our openers atleast they will give us 20-30 runs and wont impact our 3,4,5 batters.

Mayank

Ashwin

Pujara

Kohli

Rahane

Vihari

Pant

Pandya

Shami

Ishant

Bumrah

Can replace Ash with any of Pant/Pandya.

We are covered in terms of better tail, 5 bowling options as well as maybe more runs from openers.
