Team management makes these decisions, we cannot do anything about it - Shami

Decision to play Umesh was as poor as Dhoni's decision to play Vinay Kumar. If they had to play a pacer, it should have been BK. Injury of Ashwin did play a role in this selection as well. If Ashwin was fit, he would have played. But if they had to choose between BK and UY, BK should have been picked who can bat a bit as well and if they didn't pick him because of injury concerns then why is he in the squad!

PERTH: Pacer

Mohammed Shami

Monday said India missed a trick in not playing a full-time spinner on a pitch where Australia tweaker

Nathan Lyon

 has already bagged seven wickets.

Chasing 287, India were reduced to 112 for five at stumps on day four of the second Test at the Optus Stadium.

Australia finished with 243 in their second innings, with Shami taking a career-best haul of 6-56 but the match went away from India for the lack of a balanced bowling attack.

"The team management makes these decisions. We can't do anything about it. We had one spinner who didn't bowl badly. (But) If you ask me, I feel there should have been a spinner, but these things depend on your management," said Shami

Bewda and Bubbloo might keep Shami our next test for this critique.

The spinners have to make a difference in bowling and that is a big if. Its up to the team management to monitor the local ground for the past one year. In the most recent shield match, lyon was very effective. So that's poor homework if they go by the old WACA.

but the chances of more success are still on the lesser side

Bhuvi could have been a  factor if bowls like he did in SA. With the bat he can only hang around a bit and this pitch maybe too much for him.

They can pick a spinner by theory. but our finger spinners don't do well in Australia as a rule.  only one who can make a real difference with the bat is Jadeja.

for a real difference, Bhuvi should have much better than umesh with the ball or jadeja with the bat. .Ashwin's track record is just not reliable.

The selection of Rahul was a much bigger blunder. what was it supposed to prove. he has not figured out things and he is low on confidence. It was a huge gamble with extremely low chance of success.

but the alternatives are either unproven or unreliable.

BK would have done better than Umesh wiht both bat and ball.  Even if they had to pick a pacer, it should have been BK.  They probably picked Umesh for pace  but i dont think he even crossed 140 in the whole game nor he was accurate.  He made a huge difference for Australia in this game.  Shami lacked behind in the first innings but came back well in 2nd.

Bhuvi would have been worse in bowling and only a little upgrade in batting. Makes no difference actually. Spinner should have been replaced by spinner: Jadeja or Kuldeep.

Yes please keep confusing odis for tests. He has proven again and again in every single test recently but he would be worst because you claim so. How on earth could bhuvi have been worse than going for over 4 an over with zero wickets? Do you even realize what you typed

Some posters are so obviously biased its ridiculous to the highest degree. If the same guys had made posts about batting based on pure strike rate or odi exploits they would be laughed out

Not confusing anything. Go back and watch all the wickets in this test match. You will realize bhuvi is not exactly the type of bowler who would have worked here. Rest, you are die hard bhuvi fan.So nothing will convince you anyway.

You keep claiming this despite he slapping your face every time. He got wickets in SA with bounce exactly like this wicket. He bounced, he reversed and took wickets exactly how Shami too in 2nd innings, with seam and bounce over swing

Again not working doesn't mean going for over 4 an over with 0 wickets. So your claim he would do WORSE than Umesh is still a lie

Better to be a die hard fan than a speed gun fanatic with no other way to look at anything

Not a speed gun fanatic. Pollock was a trundler and so was my all time favorite Glen McGrath. :phehe: My reason for not liking Bhuvi is not speed but it's quite clear: he is not good enough for most conditions except swing.

Problem is you have made up your mind.

Ishant sucks.

Ashwin sucks.

Bhuvi sucks.

And no matter how they perform in recent times, you are sticking to your views.

Ishant and Ashwin were a huge factor in our Adelaide win. Doesn't matter if they didn't give the killer blow but they played great support roles.

Same way Bhuvi here would have done well. This ain't a patta and Bhuvi knows how to use a pitch which seams around.

Kohli said clearly that he had decided to play 4 quicks looking at the pitch.

he also said he would have considered Ashwin if he was fit.

Virat Kohli: Bhuvi hasn't played a lot of test cricket recently, Umesh picked 10 wickets in his last match and was in good rhythm so we picked him. We could have considered Ashwin if he was fully fit. #INDvAUS
