WV Raman to be new coach of Indian women’s team

Recommended Posts

Excellent choice. Raman was working as batting coach at NCA and the India A and Junior teams. He’s had vast coaching experience in domestic cricket.

He was recommended by the selection committee of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shanta Rangaswami. Gary Kirsten and Venkatesh Prasad were two others recommended.

Apparently Kirsten lost out as he wanted to continue as RCB coach.

Romesh Powar was not even a top three choice despite Diana Edulji pulling all strings for him. If she has any self respect, she should resign from her role as CoA member. For once, kudos to Vinod Rai for not caving into her blackmail and dirty media campaign which dragged Kohli into this mess as well.

Madam Edulji is clling the selection process a sham. What a shameful way to insult legends like Kapil Dev, Shanta Rangaswami and a reputed ex-player and Indian coach Anshuman Gaekwad, all of whom have served  Indian cricket with distinction. Each of the candidate got nearly an hour of presentation and discussions before the committee made its recommendation.

Kirsten apparently lost out for conflict of interest. Not sure how being a coach of RCB (men's team) can be seen as a conflict of interest for the rile of Coach of Women's team, two totally different domains. But it does put the BCCI bojos in a very poor light.

Am not surprised at Edulji's reaction. What was her deal with Romesh Powar that she's hellbent on making him the coach? Have doubts on her integrity. In fact this whole CoA arrangement itself looks like a big scam to me, all in the name of a clean up process.

And Madam Edulji is not yet done.

Now she wants Raman to be made interim coach and for CAC of Sachin, Ganguly and VVS to run the coach selection process afresh.

She continues to embarrass herself and deserves to be thrown out without causing any further damage to BCCI. What a lunatic.
