Is the captaincy burden getting too much on Kohli?

Recommended Posts

Virat has been in top form  over the last 2 years or so as we all know .What not, he even emphatically turned it around in ENG , his only bogey country.Based on all these facts he was  expected to perform hugely in AUS. But in this series  he has been relatively quiet till now .We can  claim that the bowling was relatively  tougher, he was a bit hard done by that  catch decision at Perth etc etc.But yet, what ever way we look at it  he has been way off from his normal high standards. This is most reflected in the on going  Sydney test. Mayank,Vihari,Pant all has been making substantial runs, let alone Pujara , but he disappointed. And his most telling contribution came in the Perth test where all others failed, in other words on the most difficult pitch of all as of now. That in turn  tells  there has been no problems what so ever w.r.t his cricketing ability. So what has gone wrong??? I feels strongly that the captaincy burden is getting too much for him.Thoughts.

He scored in England the most where the pressure was 100 times more on him since he had an extremely poor record in Englannd before the recent series and then he also scored and SA and was our best player in the toughest series of all 3 in terms of facing the attack of South Africa in South Africa.

So don’t think its pressure.

I will keep him as test captain for a long time as he bats well and knows how to win overseas in a test match.

I will assess his ODI captaincy and probably take it away from him after the world cup even if we win or not.

knowing Kohli, I knownhe will give ODI captaincy away after this world cup even if we win the world cup.

It will affect him eventually, every captain has that honeymoon period where runs come easily & results take care of the rest. Let's hope he steps down from LO to concentrate more on tests & lessen his burden. Also the toss - does anyone remember how he wins way more tosses in LO than tests :cantstop:

Kohli is still the 3rd highest run getter in this tough series with a 123 on the toughest pitch of the series and a fighting 83 in the next match.  No one can be the highest scorer in every tough series.

People need to remember that cricket is team game. In England, He made Indian batting all about himself( worse and most ugly display was when he made Pujara sacrifice his wicket in that run out where it should have been him going to pavalliin) which sent absolutely wrong signal.

Runs will come. For first time, Kohli seems to be  accepting  it as team game and thats a good thing.

Kohli never accepted its team game.  Made it all about himslef as he scored lots of runs.  Like he didnt want others to score runs and always wanted to walk in 10-2 lol Some of these posts and threads are getting more stupid by the day lol

Doesnt changes the facts. Indian team captain job is not to be best buddies or best bat. His job is to identify key resources delegate responsibility and win the game. Ideally , i would like it ti be fair but Hook or crook. Gentleman not gentleman. I give a damn. Win it

What cos he failed in one innings (unlucky strangled down leg) lol

Some of these threads are complete over reactions.  Maybe he needs to go to the pak coaching clinic under flower?

So , just because he failed in 1 inns & because of his  1 bad luck(but he already had scored 123 for the inns) , his avg:  has remained a mere 40   compared to his very high standards?? That is where  such doubts arises... If he avg:ed  around 45 for the series, I wouldn't have  even doubted in these lines.
