for its greatest cricketing achievement till date.I have no doubt that we will win a series in South Africa too and would have won already if not for losing all the tosses.

Congrats to win the series.  Greatest is doubtful.

ODI wins:

(1)1983 WC was special. Beat a strong WI team.

(2)2011 WC was wonderful as well.

Test Series wins overseas:

(1) Test series win in 1967 against NZ in NZ

(2)1971 test series  win in WI was our first ever win against WI.

(3)Next series after WI  1971 /1972we won test series series in England. Our first ever win in England.

(4)1986 test series win in England.

(5) 2007 test series win in England.

(6) 2008 test series win against NZ in NZ.

(7)This series win is special too as this is also our first win in Australia in test series.

Not the greatest but one of the best for sure, it all started with MAK Pataudi vs NZ when we were proper minnows. Then under Wadekar we beat 2 teams that were better than us, WI & England away, & we were ranked no.1 a few years under him. I rate those wins higher especially the first one outside Asia, in NZ.

Indeed NZ 1967 is right there as well.

Ind :hatsoff:

Great to see players that I supported (Pujara, Kohli, Agarwal, Pant, Kuldeep, Bumrah and Shami) do well. If Pandya had played, may be he would have done well too .... These 8 players, along with Shaw and Gill will ensure that Ind will continue to enjoy such success

Wins in those days were special because the home umpires were very very partial. Our bowlers had to take more than 10 wickets in almost every innings to bowl the opponent's out. With neutral umpires and DRS nowadays we have to pick 10. That's why I like DRS and neutral umpire concept.

In Pakistan, before 1989, opponents needed to pick 30 to 35 wickets per test to win.   And  their top batsmen had 2 or 3 lives unless they were bowled  or gave a looping catch.

Their greatest wicket takers,  Shakoor Rana and Khizaar Hyat,  never got true recognition.

The Australian umpires were quite notorious too in the 1970s and 1980s.

True. Imagine a captain who had lost eyesight in one eye after glass shattered his eyes in some car accident in England and his right eye was permanently damaged. What motivation would a captain give to teammates when they see someone with just left eyesight coming out to bat without a helmet . It would be a fairy tale now or someone with that disability would have played differently abled cricket tournaments nowadays. Great man

With all that challenge he averaged over 35. Now normal batsmen are struggling to average 35 in tests.

Yes, people tend to forget we've been ranked number 1 for almost 3 years straight & Aus is nearly 6 - their lowest ever? Nostalgia aside, beating better teams away when we didn't have fast bowlers is an achievement worth remembering. Now in terms of our greatest achievement ever there's 1983 - daylight - then everything else. Putting this into perspective & better context would help us appreciate our past greats, without them there would be no SMG, Kapil, SRT, Yuvraj, Kohli & whoever follows after him. Just as we owe it to Gandhi & other greats of the freedom movement, our independence, these guys owe their success to the older gen.

Indeed these were challenges.

Gary Sobers was not given out against Salim Durani in WI. Sobers scores century after that.

Sobers not given out on return catch by Bedi was height of all that

Illingworth not given out to Chandra in England. The umpiring in this series was horrible.

In 1967 tour to NZ getting bowled was the only way to get them all out. LBW was like lucky to get.

Especially the opponent captains used to get lot of decisions in favour at home as we have seen.
