First statue, then stadium...I thought gujjus were frugal with money

in general, middle class would be frugal .... not upper class. Ambani spent $1B+ on his home

If the capacity increases, ticket prices could go down .... also they can mark some section free for kids/students/etc.

Don't think we need such big stadium now. Even Eden scaled down capacity to 65000 after bucket seats.

Would have been much better to build a 35-40000 capacity stadium and use the additional space for practice facilities, academies etc. And I do hope they do not mess up like DDCA and end up with an ugly looking concrete structure.

Agree. Better to reduce seats and invest in other cricket infrastructure. Stadium will look empty even if it has 50000-60000 people.

This is Modi's Monument !!!

A 27 year old  50,000 seater stadium full maybe once a year replaced by a 110,000 seater to be full no times a year .

Even if it had been reduced to a 80, 000 seater every cricket facility which are all crap   in Ahmedabad could have been replaced with new nets, artificial wickets , equipment but those running cricket don't give a toss about youngsters .

I lost a good friend speaking out about this in Ahmedabad , as an ex Ranjj Trophy player and coach his opinion that this stadium was better than facilities for youngsters was something we disagreed hugely about especially when I pointed out that another  white elephant  brand new stadium in Gujarat sits empty only ever full when they had a few IPL games .

Gujarat Cricket Association like the other associations  is full of chancers who's first concern is what can I get out if it !!

my views as well .. this is overcapacity

Stadiums are for long terms uses. Actually the most important thing is will it be just be cricket exclusive?

they should plan and leave some space/potential for other events wheater its olympics, asian games, or different sports

L&T building it, so at least quality won't be comprised,

reading from news articles, looks like plenty of other facilities incl indoor pitches, full size outdoor fields, Olympic size swimming pool, connection with new metro line and direct road to riverfront

Though 100k is overkill

Those pitches already exist , they are called Motera B, C. And D which are not even allowed for practise even Ranji Trophy players .

An indoor academy also exists

Should get it ready by the time the Bullet train starts, should offer package tours of bullet train, statue and cricket matches - Filling up 100k is piece of cake - great minds are always ahead of times. Indians with inferiority complex don't get it.

I  think people are overlooking the fact that Gujarat ranji team won their first Ranji title in 2016-2017. Clearly even somebody is looking at the cricketing aspects on the field. I have noticed more and more good cricketers linked to Guj ranji teams making the cut. Pappu Patel, Bumrah, Pandya Pujara Jadeja (Saurashtra, Baroda and Gujarat)

India should be thankful as Bumrah from what I know is born and raised in A'bad and plays for the Gujarat ranji team. If this sports complex spread over 63 acres produces multiple such talents I think its time to say thankyou to Mr Shah and Modi.
