Spinners got us back into the game, picking up 5/27 in 10 middle overs but then what do they know.

pacers also picked 4 of them.  Spinners 5/65, pacers 4/58.  Its a common wisdom to bowl pace when opposition needing few runs and #11 is batting on an uneven pitch.

Spinners were picking those wickets when Eng A were running away with the match at 87-4. Spinners can take wickets number 5 to 9  for 27 runs but then suddenly spinners become useless because number 11 came to bat!

Lions were running away with the game that because spinners could not pick up up wickets after early burst by pacers and pacers didn't get to bowl after early bursts.  There is no thumb rule but what the captain do was change the pace of the ball from one end.

Day 1 - Side 1 bats 60 overs, other one for 30 overs

Day 2 - Reverse of day 1

Nothing wrong for a 2 day unofficial practice match, Each team gets 90 overs to bat and bowl. Other option was 1 day of batting to each side.

Well it is kinda nonsense as you have shorter innings and play extra aggressively, especially if you're preparing for longer format matches.

Only 2 of the 10 bowlers used weren't regular full time bowlers.

Did India A tour SA, England and Australia before India toured those places. These A tours should be organized concurrently to the tours of Indian team to those countries. We will then have ability to send players from one team to other depending on form and performances.

How man test players have these tours prodouced and what is point in the playing tests in India right now.

India A did tour England and then England came to India.  Aus and SA also came to India last year in September as it was their turn to come after India A toured them previously.  A tours are also going in rotation.

Those types of tours are not helping anyone.Having both tour concurrently helps both visiting and home teams.Since there are no practice games on tours.Players have no way of regaining form during the tours and team results are suffering. If both tours were cuncurrently happening then it benefits touring teams.

Don't England Lions tour concurrently to their team when Ashes are played?

There is only one change in the India A squad , with the middle-order batsman Karun Nair included at the expense of the fast bowler Avesh Khan

Why is avesh Khan not selected for the next  match. Is he going to be selected for the odi series against Australia

What I am interested in knowing about Saini is ...

...  In this match, has Saini bowled most of his good length balls with full effort and zip off the deck like the 2017-18 Ranji season

... or is he still floating most of the good length balls in like the 2018-19 Ranji season.  (  The biggest reason for his loss of form from June 2018 to December 2018   )

... (  His short ball has been good in both seasons )

why has avesh only bowled 12 overs and the rest of quicks bowled over 20. Hope he is not injured..

My question too.

Both Shardul and Saini have bowled 24 overs and Avesh only 12, despite being the most economical pacer of the three.

Looks like he did not get his 3rd spell yesterday, while the other two did.  And today they started with Shardul and Saini again and England was dismissed by Saini before Avesh's turn came.

4 wkts for Saini. ICF pace brigade who had given up on him will do his ghar waapasi soon.

He was bowling well, not getting wickets through the season. Just reward against a top class opposition, should get a 5-er to make it even better.

Never gave up on him.

Batting for nearly 5 hours, so must have felt good. First such knock after the 100 in Eng. From 88*, can he go onto make a 150-170? Could then be the real turnaround innings for him.

Very impatient in Australia. Played like a T20 hack. What about his weakness against incoming balls? Has he found a way to cope with such balls?

Blasted 'pecking order'.

I hope so.  Batting ability is there. He just mind-phucked himself, and a minor technical issue or so.  He's a legit test opener, those types of batsmen are a rare commodity in cricket, in all countries.  I hope he's able to fight through and come back stronger.

More than that,  it is important to set some benchmarks for Team India pacers and those who are near selection.

They must have the ability to put a high percentage of deliveries in the right areas while bowling at good pace. They must have the ability to extract life out of the pitch. They should be fit and have the ability to sustain intensity.

Pacers who are doing the above should be persisted with and praised.

Pacer who are unable to do the above, for a decent length of time, should be made to work on the weaknesses they have developed, rectify them and then come back if they perform at FC / List A level again.

We should not have any permanent favourites or dump anyone for ever.  It an issue of adhering to benchmarks. As long as the basic ability is there, it is about attitude, fitness and ability to work on weaknesses.
