This is my list of pairs  batsmen of similar eras ranked in order of merit who when rolled into one comprised the perfect batsmen.I have not taken batting averages to be the criteria but asessed technical skill combined with attacking agression and creativity.Equivalent of  boxer, surgeon and magician rolled into one.Favoured combinations which had batsmen of supreme technical skill or elegance  combined with those with magical innovative ability and great destructive power.

1.Barry Richards-Viv Richards-Blended the technical perfection and power of Barry with the phenomenal imagination and attacking agression of Viv .Like an architect, bulldozer and magician rolled into one.No batsmen pulverised bolwing as much as Viv while no attacking batsmen was ever as organized as Barry.

2.Viv Richards -Sunil Gavaskar-Sunny represented concentration and batting technique at it's supreme height while Viv took domination and imagination to it's ultimate crescendo.

3.Viv Richards -Greg Chappell-The technical correctness and elegance of Greg Chappell with the detsructive power of Viv would make a perfect batsmen.

4.Len Hutton-Denis Compton-Arguably the technically best batsmen and the most imaginative batsmen of all rolled into one.Reminiscent of a technician and musical composer rolled into one.

5.Gary Sobers-Rohan Kanhai-Two of the most consummate batsmen of all time posessing every facet of the perfect batsmen.

6.Sachin Tendulkar-Brian Lara-The mastery of Sachin with the genius of Brian could make cricket's ultimate batsmen.

7.Barry Richards-Graeme Pollock-Two bating geniuses who would make a super batsmen.Brary the more organized,Graeme the more inovative.

8.Sunil Gavaskar-Gundappa Vishwanath- Equivalent of a professor and magician rolled into one.Vishy literally took the art of batting to regions o Wizardry.

9.Don Bradman -Jack Hobbs-Bradman took domination of bowling to regions of divinty while Hobbs mastered bad wickets like a surgeon operating a patient considered incurable.

10.Sachin Tendulkar-Rahul Dravid-Blending the mastery and innovative ability of Sachin with the technical correctness and great concentration of Rahul. The master with the wall.

11.Ian Chappell-Greg Chappell-The elegance  and technical skill of Greg blended with the combativeness and doogged spirit of brother Ian would make an almost perfect batsmen.

12.Mark Waugh-Steve Waugh-Perfect blending of elegance with technical skill and ability to improvise

Sachin doesn't need anybody added - he was as close as you could get to the perfect batsman - especially prior to elbow injury.  Tendulkar from 92 to 2002 was everything you'd want from a batsman.

Except that Lara had it in him to really play huge innings the concentration level Lara had was something even peak Tendulkar never had, those 501,375,400 is what makes him so special, not to forget he would literally scores big score in a series example against Sri Lanka test or against Australia Tendulkar had more shots and more consistency but Lara could bring opponents to their knees by playing marathon innings by his supreme level of concentration

The perfect bat would be the one who has

Don's consistency

Tendulkar's charisma and Hunger for success

Ab 's strokeplay

richards power and fearlessness

Sunny 's technique

Lara's mental concentration

Steve Waugh's gutsiness

same era. The OP is an elegant way to not complicate eras ( and the myriad undefined factors), this way you can come up with what theoretically would have been the most consummate batting skills of that era. ABDV + Kohli of current era for example. KP + Sehwag of earlier one would be interesting skill combos.

Sachin was a mental midget (like Federer)....at least compared to his illustrious peers. Also lacked ruthlessness to own a match or series. This may be an unpopular opinion here but for me both Tendy and Fed are the greatest underachievers in their respective sports.

Ian Bell (against swing and incoming deliveries, pure defensive technique) + VVS (clutchness, artistry, against spin/bounce ). Can't think of 2 lower profile batsmen combining to attain perfection. Strictly test cricket, not that white ball nonsense.

Fair point about those massive innings, but to be fair, Sachin in his prime didn't aim to 'go big' after crossing the 3 figure mark.  Once he crossed 100, he often batted with a lot more aggression and in turn, increased risk.

You've gone a bit OTT with the harshness, but at the core of it, is a fair point IMHO.  Both of these guys were absolute freaks of technical brilliance.  Both showed a mental frailty at times which didn't line-up with the skills at their disposal.  Both were the rare examples of child prodigies who went on to fulfill their promise.  And both managed to lengthen their careers well past their prime, giving ammunition to Johnny-come-latelys who go by their post-prime version to dismiss their peak versions.

for me its KP + Sehwag. Slightly lesser than the legit greats but a combination for these twos skills will be an unreal batsman.
