The former Indian left-arm pacer Ashish Nehra strongly believes that Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar both can play together for the national team.

Both the all-rounders have played good roles for the Indian national cricket team. The 25-year-old Hardik Pandya had gradually become one of the crucial members of the national side. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Vijay Shankar has utilised his limited opportunities very well, and now he is growing up as an international level cricketer.

In the recent absence of Hardik Pandya, Vijay Shankar has earned some consistent opportunities for the national team, and he has done very well.

The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup is coming very near as it is less than three months away to begin. England and Wales will host the tournament from 30 May to 14 July. Before participating in that tournament, India is in the final preparation mode.

While the fit Hardik Pandya will undoubtedly represent the national side in the upcoming World Cup, Vijay Shankar is not far away to earn his first World Cup opportunity.

Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar have different styles  – Ashish Nehra

However, Ashish Nehra believes that Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar both can play together in the upcoming World Cup. Though both are the pace-bowling all-rounders, Ashish Nehra feels they are entirely different.

The former Indian pacer recently told CricketNext that Hardik Pandya could also play as the third pacer for the national team. Ashish Nehra believes that Hardik Pandya is a genuine all-rounder as he can both bat and bowl very well.

Meanwhile, he also feels that Vijay Shankar is a skilful and talented batsman who can bat at any position from no.3 to no.6. However, Vijay Shankar hasn’t impressed Ashish Nehra with his medium pace bowling. The former Indian pacer believes that Vijay Shankar can be India’s sixth or seventh bowler. However, he is hopeful about his future progress in his bowling too.

Vijay Shankar shined again during the Nagpur ODI

On this Tuesday (5 March), Vijay Shankar impressed with his all-round performances against Australia in Nagpur ODI. At first, during the pressure situation, he played a crucial innings and scored 46 runs off 41 balls. He was just unlucky to lose his wicket through a run-out.

Later, in the game, he had to defend 11 runs in the final over of the match while the set batsman Marcus Stoinis (52 runs) was in the crease. He dismissed Marcus Stoinis on the first delivery of that over and sealed that game on the third ball with the last wicket. Marcus Stoinis’ wicket was his first ODI wicket, and that came through the lbw. India won the match by just eight runs while he had the bowling figures of 1.3-0-15-2.

Ashish Nehra confidently believes that Marcus Stoinis’ wicket will give massive confidence to Vijay Shankar.
