Will IPL performances influence world cup selection anyway?

Good performances in IPL could put current form in the spotlight .... On the other hand, if likes of Rohit and Rayudu continue to struggle even in IPL, their place in WC squad could be questioned  :dontknow:

You went totally silent on Pant's two flop innings in T20 against Australia? Majority of the team will self-select themselves. I am talking about one or two spot like Rayudu's spot, backup wicket keepre spot. if Karthik scores brilliantly what then?  Will he come back?

Kohli has already said that IPL performances won't influence WC selection.

That settles it then. It is basically going to be a batting practice for already selected squad. So Australia series outcome will decide the playing squad. Then they better try out all the options.

Why would we have to be vocal when everyone who wants to see Ind do well tries to back youngsters with potential?

Questions can be raised against anyone who is chosen when better options are available. If you want to posts what Ind will send to Eng, recommend you comment when the squad is announced

As much as the team management wants to say IPL performances do not count, for some players it will count, especially the younger guys. Say if Pant, Shaw, Gill, Iyer have exceptional IPL, selectors and TM will find it very difficult to ignore their claims, even though in a different format. Public sentiments will be for these guys to be in the team and not any of the oldies.

  • high chance it wont but still wont rule out the chances
  • If guys like raina, yuvraj has an outstanding IPL who knws.......
  • DK n rayudu are on the edge of loosing their spots and they can save it
  • 4th seamer is still open so - unadkat, kaul, chahar, thakur, umesh will have their chances

Umesh should be kept as far away as possible. Vijay shankar a part time seamer for TN showed more composure in 50th over against a set batsman than Umesh against two tailenders with more runs to defend. Saw him in Ranji there also he was getting smashed around by tail at one point.

To an extent, yes

There are 1-2 spots that hang 50/50. IPL form will likely help make those choices.

Pant/DK as the backup keeper

Jadeja/Rahul as the 15th member

I guess 13 spots in the WC squad are taken. And that includes Rayudu unless he has a terrible IPL.
