Pre Tournament Impressions

In no particular order:

Could be good and/or can surprise

  • MI
  • RR -> If ARs click. Key players Smith, Archer, Stokes, Turner and Buttler
  • Kings -> can surprise with KL, Gayle (if his monster form continues), Agarwal, Shami, Rajpoot, etc.,
  • DC -> hit or miss, but can surprise if it can hit more often this time

Could be a mixed bag where good performances are mixed with bad ones

  • RCB -> Hetmyer, Stonnis, Grandhomme, etc., w/ Kohli and ABDV
  • SRH -> Warner, Guptill, Bairstow, Rashid, etc.

Could play good to average cricket where the results could depend upon how the other team plays

  • KKR -> WI players, Kuldeep
  • CSK -> Ex or near ex players

:dontknow:

MI- Rohi form is a concern + they have taken yuvraj singh who can sank them in few games

CSK- they proved all of us wrong last year so i refrain about making any comments

KXIP- they have to sought their middle order

KKR- Filled with match winners but has to click as team

DD- I fear they might end up wasting their best player pant down the order

RCB- somehow they will end screwing up

RR- Rahane in that lineup screws everything

SRH- Their biggest challenge is loosing a lot of overseas player in middle of season, they might even struggle to put 4 overseas players

I'll start with teams that may not qualify for playoffs..

SRH : Good side, but they'll lose all of their first choice overseas players to international commitments later in the IPL (Warner, Bairstow, Rashid, Nabi, Shakib)

RCB - they'll always find a way to choke.. middle order still looks suspect, they'll bat AB and Kohli in the top 3 and the days when they fail, middle order will be like deer in front of headlights

RR - all hopes rest on Buttler and Stokes.. they will always leave mid-way, so will be in a similar situation as last year

DD - talent always blows hot and cold.. never consistent through the tourney to get to the playoffs

Teams that might make it to the playoffs:

KXIP : strong team on paper.. if gayle and rahul can get going, they are a power house.. bowling is still a concern, have to see what the new mystery spinners can do

MI : strong side, middle order could be weak, given Rohit's form and Pandya bros are inconsistent

CSK : don't depend of one single player.. if one player fails, another shows up.. ex-national-players (Bravo, Watson) still play T20 leagues, hence close to this format of the game

KKR : strong starting XI. injuries is a concern

These are the teams I see playing in the playoffs

-CSK (no brainer)

-MI

-KKR

-Last one could be a toss between RCB/SRH - and I can't see SRH go beyond this considering by then all off their first choice foreign players will be gone. Beside Dawan and Buvi, can't remember any other Indian players who made significant marks for SRH, it was always the foreigh players.

At the moment, many overseas players are striking form. Indian players who are doing well such as Shaw, Agarwal, Saini (bowled well with pace iirc), etc., may not be in the scheme for the WC

So far

a) teams mainly relying on select players:

  • KKR - Russell
  • SRH - the openers
  • K11 - top order

b) teams sharing performances around

  • CSK
  • DC
  • MI

c) teams not finding anyone to rely on or share responsibilities

  • RR
  • RCB

So Far

CSK looks miles ahead

DC- doing well but inexp will haunt them n iyer captaincy isnt upto mark

RR- playing well but not finishing

RCB - :hysterical:

MI- will get better as tournament progress , most probably they ll make playoff .....good team dont count them out

SRH- will be dependant on batting till its avl, once their overseas player leave the challenge begin

KKR- Most probably will make playoff

KXIP- their batting looks in form , wont be surprised if they do well
